We should teach our children ‘Cursive First, Print Later’.

Source: Samuel L. Blumenfield, "How Should We Teach Our Children to Write? Cursive First, Print Later!"

The British Dyslexia association recommend that children learn the continuous cursive style. The cursive style has some significant advantages for Dyslexic students. The key advantages to this system are:

* By making each letter in one movement, children’s hands develop a ‘physical memory’ of it, making it easier to produce the correct shape;

* Because letters and words flow from left to right, children are less likely to reverse letters which are typically difficult (like b/d or p/q);

* There is a clearer distinction between capital letters and lower case;

* The continuous flow of writing ultimately improves speed and spelling.

Do not get this app

The app is very misleading. It is marketed as an app your child can learn cursive with, but that is not the case......unless you want them to learn the incorrect way. Almost every letter is incorrect. Find a different app.

Rosabelle6 ,

Limited to 3 letter words

It's great for learning how to write cursive but it doesn't let you write more than 3 letter words. I still think it is a really fun app. Great for beginners.

Developer Response ,

Hi Rosabella6,
Thanks for your feedback back in 2015. Sorry to be so late replying to your review but the 'reply to reviews', feature is new to us!
This app does definitely allow you to write words that are longer than 3 letters. The words are based on the top 100 high frequency words. We do start off with the shorter words as it is the best place to start for beginner writers but it definitely progresses to words like 'children' and 'people', as they are high frequency words.
Your little one has probably outgrown the game by now but if you do go back and revisit it do let me know how you get on!

Not a good teaching tool

This app does not teach proper formation of cursive letters. I hoped my daughter could use this as a means of practicing what she is learning in school, unfortunately it only confuses her. She knows they are wrong and doesn't want to play it. If your child is learning the same cursive writing you we learned in school, this will disappoint.

Developer Response ,

Hi Gehnigirl,
Thanks for your feedback on our app Crazy Cursive back in 2015. We have updated the app several times since then and have made the 'change cursive font', much more prominent now. Your little one is probably much bigger now and doesn't need cursive practice any more but if you do go back and give it a try again do let us know how you get on! Also if there are additional font styles we have missed do let us know!
