Awkwardly placed ads
I am really enjoying this app now. There are some great titles in here, although I prefer dubbed anime. I can understand a little Japanese from the time I've spent there, and while listening to the original audio is good practice for me, I still have to read the subtitles and i cannot enjoy the animation as much. But, it is free - and i am not going to complain since I am not personally paying for the licensing of dubbed titles.
My real issue with this app is that the ads are haphazardly placed. For example, I have been watching "Another" - and the ads in the middle or near the end of each episode often pop in during dramatic scenes. In the MIDDLE of these scenes. It is annoying, and could be avoided easily if the good people at Crunchyroll paid some attention to where they plop these things. It just looks very amateur. I have heard that they subtitle the shows themselves - the subtitles and translations are excellent. So if they pay so much attention to the subtitling, just pay a LITTLE attention to where the ads are placed in each episode - because it looks like they used automation software to do this... it looks like nobody there bothered to check this. That is my only gripe, other than the lack of dubbed anime. But, you can't beat the price - it doesn't get cheaper than free. I find something to do during the ads anyway, just like watching it on broadcast TV. :)
I was a huge fan of dubbed anime and when I expressed this fact online or to my friends who also liked anime they would always say, "Subbed anime is solo much better! Vector, you have to get Crunchyroll!" I normally shrugged off the comment and continued to watch Toonami for my anime. After I completely condemned the Cartoon Network for the hell storm of terrible shows I ran out of ways to watch anime. Just under a year later I remembered what all the people said, and got Crunchyroll. Needless to say, I have been overwhelmingly delighted with this app. Clear sound, beautiful video, and all the anime I could ever want. What's not to love? I've started out with Attack on Titan to get me used to watching subbed anime, as it was and still is my favourite anime, and I can confirm, something about subbed anime makes it far better than dubbed anime. Maybe it's because you have to read the subbed titles if you don't speak Japanese, making it much more like a book, causing you to really taking in the story and what is going on. With all this being said, I can sum it all up with a few simple words: Like anime? Get Crunchyroll. It has well earned my five-star review.
Love the app!
I have not had any problems with crashing, lag or fuzzy videos and on top of that, crunchy roll has most of all my favorite anime plus way more to become part of my favorites. There was a small amount of disappointment when premium was required to watch certain videos and get rid of ads, but hey! Not everything can be free in life. I guess I got used to having lots of free apps... Anyway, I ended up getting premium and it massively improved my crunchy roll experience (you could say tripled my fondness for the app).
I recommend this app to every anime lover and rate it 6/5 stars! Also, if you have the money to do so, I strongly recommend you get premium. I guarantee it will improve your crunchy roll experience to the degree it did for me or greater.
