Custom Boards allows you to select from a pool of templates in six areas: Devices& Switches, Grids & Boards, Schedules, Activities, Signs, Labels & Worksheets.
Ou Premium version offers a total of 126+ Templates.
A research study by Wilkinson, Carlin, & Jagaroo, 2006, found that children are faster and more accurate in learning symbols when the symbols had unique internal colors; therefore users are also able to to change background colors on each individual cell on Custom Boards.
We have included an area that allows you to suggest templates to us to be available on future updates of Custom Boards.
After you select your template, select the images and edit text for each symbol you are ready to PRINT, SAVE, or E-MAIL the final template to yourself. You can print directly from the device if you use an AirPrint ready printer. Custom Boards also allows you to keep your finalized templates organized into folders, which is great for teachers creating boards for multiple students.
It is also possible to save templates to your computer in pdf. format via iTunes. Please visit our website for a tutorial.
Custom Boards is the first and only app of its kind and a revolution for special education!

Affordable and effective symbols app...an SLP must have!
From Speech and Language Therapy Cafe: This is my second year utilizing this effective app to support my AAC users who need visual support. The app is user friendly and having Smarty Symbols in the picture library makes for very colorful and engaging communication boards and activities. But if you don’t like symbol sticks you can take your own photos or use photos saved to your photo library and upload them for the individual activities you create. I have been providing speech therapy services for 18 years and this app is not only affordable, but a must have!
I have utilized other programs with communication symbols in the past and this is by far the most dynamic, creative, best graphics, and visually appealing for both my pediatrics patients in the public schools and my adult patients in the medical setting.
I highly recommend SLP’s to purchase this app to create activities and boards to support the communication of your students, create structure, assist with transition, or facilitate emotional regulation.
Great updates, love the lower price!
This keeps getting better and better- I really love the ability to add images anywhere, and the new lower price is wonderful as it is accessible to more people. It has been so handy finding words for articulation practice, for example. I find myself using this a lot. I got it on sale, so it has been a bargain. I'm glad the dev has listened to user input on improvements. Thank you to the developer for pointing out that the device's Voice Over can be used in this app, I didn't know that!
Thank you so much for such kind words. You can actually use the iPad voice over feature to generate voice; but the primary purpose of the app is not to serve as an AAC device, but to create printable materials.
My daily go-to app
Custom boards is worth every penny. As a SLP, I've made communication boards, activity sheets for language and articulation and photo books in a matter of minutes.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
