Cut Notes is an iPad note-taking app for post production professionals. Take notes on the fly using quick preset buttons, all synced to the timecode of your editing application. Used worldwide by studios and freelancers alike, Cut Notes allows you to focus on the cut instead of looking down to write.
Cut Notes is integrated with the Kollaborate cloud workflow platform which allows you to easily share notes with colleagues and clients, as well as having collaborative note-taking sessions.
Note: Cut Notes does not play video and is designed as a companion app synchronized to another video source. If you're looking for a video player that will allow you to take notes, please see our other product, CinePlay: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cineplay/id561280759?mt=8
Sync timecode from Kollaborate, Final Cut Pro 6/7, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6.0.2 for Mac, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Avid Media Composer / Symphony for Mac, Adobe Audition and Pro Tools.
Additionally, Cut Notes should be able to sync to any app that supports MIDI timecode.
With a single tap of a notekey, the note is added instantly at the current timecode position. Create notekey sets for different tasks such as editing and mixing.
Create a custom note at any time with the text box above the notekeys. Cut Notes will insert the note at the moment you first began typing so there’s no need to rush.
Change any notekey, create notekey sets and color code the keys.
Make notes on your Kollaborate videos and sync them instantly to the cloud. Sync timecode directly from your web browser and remotely control playback.
View comments by colleagues instantly and take part in collaborative note-taking sessions.
Cut Notes can export notes to Final Cut Pro 6/7, Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools (via the third-party application EdiMarker). Notes can be emailed, copied to the pasteboard, printed, uploaded to Dropbox or uploaded to Kollaborate. Importing a Marker List into Final Cut Pro or FCPX requires the free Cut Notes Marker Import utility for Mac OS X available at http://www.digitalrebellion.com/cutnotes.

Buggy and missing useful features
I was actually using this on set to take live continuity notes for a reality show. It very often gets slow to the point of being unusable and has to be killed and restarted. Also there is no way to export an entire project at once. You must do it "cut" by "cut." It would also be nice to have the option to stack short cut keys. Right now, I believe that you can only do that by double tapping one and tapping another within 1.5 seconds. It would be nice to have an option to mot be limited by that time so you could double tap one and then tap several others until you press return. It could be a really useful app. The slow downs and bugginess are the main issues though. Also, if exporting plain text to dropbox it's just one big continuous block of text which is useless. If exported to email or clipboard, it's fine.
Great program, has some bugs.
If your a for-realsie film editor, this program along with AC-7, are all the reason you ever need to buy an iPad.
I don't know what it is with this program and titles, but... Titling versions and cuts is buggy. This is just annoying. The bad is when importing markers into FCP 7, the XML loses any carriage return in a standard title. So you need to either use those sequences as reference or be prepared to repast any titles.
This tool is still AWESOME. Digital Rebellion already has a iPhone remote app. They need add a play button here, and have the option to read T.C. from the machine. Or minimally a way to manually re-sync the t.c.
Another wish would be slightly smaller buttons that where organized under columns. I'd replace too loud and too low for just "mix note" or "Mix!"
Also it should record audio while timecode is running.
Great app for anyone who sits in an edit bay or mix room. A few things I'd like to see added: id like to be able to bring up the notes without turning the ipad, check boxes on the notes list, and color coding the buttons. I use this app all the time and love how customizable it is! just hoping the next version improves the already awesome app.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
