Customer Reviews

Infinitely Customizable, perfect customer service

Let me say that as a user of MapMyRide switching to CM was a bit overwhelming for the first week. I was used to the simplicity of MMR's interface, but with that simplicity also came it's biggest drawback for me; the ability to analyze my ride data. CM is essentially infinitely customizable, possibly TOO customizable for those who just want to get in there and start using it from day one without putting any effort into it. Yes, it requires some effort. If you're the type of person who likes digging into every nook and cranny of an app to figure out all its features you'll love CM, otherwise it may be a bit daunting. I personally am loving it. CM connects directly with MyFitnessPal after my workouts and now that I have it customize to my wants it's great.

Also, as someone who doesn't normally pay for apps this one was worth every penny of the $10. I had trouble connecting my workouts with MyFitnessPal initially so I emailed their support and received a response from an*actual* human being who took the time to personally guide me through my problem, not an automated message or a boiler plate copy/paste response. That kind of stuff is priceless in my opinion.

Won me over.

Really liked BUT...

The thing I liked about this app was the ability to get lots of data and that it could transfer it automatically to Strava after each run/ ride...

BUT yesterday I discovered that what Cyclemeter says isn't necessarily what Strava will show...

e.g. On Cyclemeter I tracked a run I did of 5.09km... but when it went into Strava it said I'd only done 4.9km... I appreciate it's not hugely out BUT I'm trying to cover a minimum of 5k each day so it matters!!!

Support from Cyclemeter has been speedy, I emailed them and they got in touch really quickly but it seems this is a common issue... they said,

"It is very common to see differences in your stats when sending your workouts from Cyclemeter to Strava. When our data is sent to Strava, they read in the GPS data that we send but they recalculate the values for run time, distance, speed, stopped time, and calories using their own algorithms. While you may sometimes see the values come out the same in both apps, there is no way to ensure that will occur."

I thought GPS tracking would always be the same but apparently not. Certainly something to be aware of...

Aside from that, I think the app is great but that issue stops me giving it a higher rating for now.

Mostly Great

This would earn 5 stars if the phone app could use heart rate (HR) data directly from Apple Watch. As it is, only the Watch version of the app (which is nearly useless) can read HR from Apple Watch. So you still have to wear a separate HR monitor (like Wahoo Tickr) to use the phone app. An absurd and unnecessary inconvenience that makes one wonder if app developers ever use their own products.

Other issues are an clumsy interface, inconvenient start/stop/pause controls, and no integration with wind sensors.

Yet with all its drawbacks, it's still better than anything Garmin has to offer, and used with a good power meter (like Stages strain-based crabs mounted system), it's probably the best there is.
