No More Shuffling Books
The cycle of daily prayer called the Daily Office is one of the great treasures of the Episcopal / Anglican tradition. It has formed the ground for the spiritual lives of countless Christians in and out of this tradition, and it continues to help those seeking a rich, accessible pattern of prayer, scripture, and reflection.
One of the Office's greatest assets is also among the greatest obstacles to newcomers: the breadth of options available to one within the liturgies of Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline can be overwhelming. Without guidance, the many rubrics and directions can be confusing to those unused to the particular logic of the Book of Common Prayer.
This complexity, coupled with the need to refer to another text entirely for the readings from scripture while referencing a difficult-to-navigate lectionary can discourage a would-be user of the Daily Office before ever beginning!
The Daily Office app, however, streamlines all this complexity while allowing users to have all of the depth and flexibility of the offices at their fingertips! Seamlessly integrating the prayers, psalms, and selections from scripture for you Daily Office makes praying this ancient cycle of liturgies both beautiful and easy!
What's New in Version 1.3
- Philemon and Philippians no longer confused
- Setting duration for silent prayer should work properly
- Typos in canticles fixed
- Other minor bug fixes
Well designed but glitchy
I like the design, layout, and thoughtfulness of the app.
Unfortunately, I have experienced the settings for silence to be very glitchy. I have attempted to change the time but it either defaults back to 10 minute or 0... please update to fix.
Customizable But Buggy
• Aesthetically pleasing; simple design.
• Options galore - Lots of custom settings for one's liturgical preferences.
• A handful of custom settings don't seem to work properly (e.g. scripture readings, collects).
• Display needs to be ON during Silent Prayer Time, otherwise the time/progress bar won't progress.
• Despite all the custom options, the price is still a bit steep for a BCP app (in my opinion).
Good - still needs a few tweaks
This has been a good app which I use even though I do get frustrated with it. For morning prayer this morning, only one reading was displayed. I still cannot set the silent prayer time to 5 min and I really really wish my phone would not go sleep in the middle of the silent prayer time.
