Improved Frame rate + 8 to 15 fps !!!!
Rating: 2/5 (Full Review)
Dark Hill has a rare blend of multiple elements from many classic horror games, but does it live up to the hype?
Let me begin with the ammo. Dude, you get like 20 bullets for your machine gun & it takes about 10 shots to kill ONE freakin monster. & on top of that, ANY contact with a monster is an instant death. They were so lazy with the game that there aren't any animations for when the monsters attack you, they just touch you, and you're dead. After you kill about 4 monsters, your out of ammo & you must run through the level unarmed.
Also, the controls really tick me off too. You could be walking, the suddenly the character stops, & won't move for another 10 seconds. This is bad because anytime you touch ANY object (walls, boxes, etc), you get stuck ! A lot of times, you run through a doorway only to fimd a monster around the corner, you try to back up & shoot it, assuming you have any rounds left, & what do you know, your stuck against the wall with nowhere to move & instantly die.
Bottom line, it DOES have the potential to be a great game. Just please release an update fixing these issues & I'll buy full version along with four MAYBE 5 stars.
PS: The CGI could be improved.
This game isn't the best, but the graphics are solid and the controls are okay... One major problem was collision; you would get stuck on walls a lot. Weapons are also dissapointing; you only have three: the assault rifle, a generic but cool gun, a flame thrower/rocket launcher, which is cool, but ineffective, and a shotgun, which kills all enemies on screen. You start with all these and have a fixed amount of ammo, so when you run out, you have to run away, but the balance between ammo and enemies is perfect. Speaking of enemies, there are very few types, and few are challenging. Also, they look more Lovecraftian than like zombies. The controls are great, but the response is horrible, and being a full 3d fps, this game suffers from bad frame rates. All in all, this game has potential and serves as a nice experiment, but in its current state, it isn't good.
From 1(worst) - 10(best):
Controllers (1): the controllers are stupid. You have one side to control front and back movement, and another to control side, up, down movement. It is annoying to try and move around. The only other controller you have is "shoot". All this makes gameplay limited, slow, and hard to move around.
Graphics (3): they look like the work of some 13 year old kid. The blood is just stupid looking, and the monsters aren't scary. It just makes the experience boring and repetitive.
Music/ sound(9): the music was really good, had a nice suspence to it. The noises the monsters make are scary.
Ease(1): it's so inconvenient to use to controllers to move around. When a monster appears, first you have to turn to it's direction, then try and point the gun by moving the angle, and THEN shoot. Did you know you die after they touch you for one second? You better turn, move Aiming point, and shoot fast.
Overall (2): this game is good to try, but once you figure out how annoying it is to kill monsters, and end up dying because it's too much moving around before you get a decent aim at it, then you just delete it. This game needs major make over
