Description

Dark Sky can tell you at a glance exactly when it will rain (or snow) up to an hour in advance, so you’re free to walk the dog or run out to lunch and know you’ll stay dry. You can also explore the most beautiful weather animation you’ve ever seen, both forward in time or back.

(Dark Sky is available in the US, UK and Ireland.)

YOUR WEATHER, DOWN TO THE MINUTE
Using GPS, Dark Sky is able to create forecasts for your precise location, giving you minute-by-minute predictions for the next hour and hour-by-hour forecasts for the next day and week.

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER ANIMATIONS
The same technology that powers Dark Sky’s predictions also allows us to make the world’s first perfectly smooth radar animation. Other apps show you a chunky slideshow that makes it nearly impossible to tell how storms are moving. But Dark Sky’s radar animation lets you see the actual path of the storm: how it moved in the past, and where it’s going in the future.

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
Dark Sky comes with advanced notification options: Receive down-to-the-minute alerts before it starts raining at your exact location, get notified of government severe weather alerts (for such things as thunderstorms, flooding, hurricanes, etc), or even create your own custom notifications covering the next 24 hours for things like temperature, wind, precipitation and more. Even if you haven't opened the app in days, Dark Sky will tell you what you need to know, when you need to know it.

TODAY WIDGET
The Dark Sky Notification Center Widget tells you at a glance what's going to happen in the next hour and the next week, so you don't even have to unlock your phone to quickly check the weather before heading out.

APPLE WATCH
Dark Sky looks great on your wrist. Get notifications and check out the weather for the next week with the Dark Sky app built from scratch for Apple Watch.

Being able to track atmospheric pressure to the nearest millibar sounds impressive and all, but sometimes you just want to know if it’s going to rain. Dark Sky tells you exactly how much precipitation to expect and when to expect it, as well as offering cool customizable weather alerts and a mesmerizing time-lapse view of local cloud movements that’s almost as much fun as splashing in puddles.

Finally, I have downloaded over 30 weather apps

I live in SW Florida and aside from hurricane season, we can have quickly changing weather and circumstances. Lately, it's been wildfires and lack of rain with crazy winds makes for a dangerous situation. One which you need to trust the weather data your receiving minute to minute. Dark Sky is that App for my family. I have easily downloaded & tried over thirty weather apps and have found Dark Sky to be the most accurate and easy to use GUI available. Where I live buts right up to the Everglades, in fact we are part of the Everglades, so I was initially concerned with coverage and the use of other user input with the weather their experiencing near them. I have found the coverage is unbeatable and the data from other users is brilliant and comes together to make the most accurate & current weather information available. I work in emergency services and I use Dark Sky to compare against info I get from national services & the local EOC information and to my surprise, the user data makes the difference to understand what's happening not only in my area but others I look after. Few Apps have I ever rated 5 stars. I also would like to thank the app developers for consistently updating & working through bugs quickly.

Not as good as I hoped it would be

My favorite app for weather was suddenly not supported any longer. Opening it showed no data. So, I searched for a new one.

Dark Sky is not intuitive and the opening page shows me the temperature and if it’s rising or falling. I sort of knew that before I opened the app. It then shows what the conditions will be for the next 16 hours. It also indicates what the sky will look like and in percentages. That’s good. At the bottom of the page there are switches giving you the choice of humidity, UV index, temperature, and wind speed, but it took a few times before I realized that you must scroll down to get the switches. Then, although it doesn’t tell me, you can sweep to the left or right to get more information. To the right, it give you the high and low for the next seven days. Again, okay, but just the temperature. I want see frontal systems, lows and highs. Having been an aviator, weather is important to me. I can’t do anything about it, but I like to be prepared. That left swipe gives me a monochromatic map of the western US. With only light blue blotches. Zooming in on my home, I get somewhat vague images of what appear to be rain - no clouds that I can determine. It’s an okay app, but I find when I pay for a app that is not as good as a free one, I’m irritated. $4.00 isn’t much since there are no ads, but here in the West I want to see where my mountains and deserts are if I am planning a trip to cross the Cascade in the winter.
