Customer Reviews

Version one was fantastic, but the new version is so amazing, it keeps getting better.

This is an app I use and enjoy every single day. Now that I've been using it for four years, I get to look at where I've been each year this past day. They keep finding ways to make it better and better, I missed entering photographs for a couple of days a month or so ago, and now, when you go to put the photos in it shows you the photographs you took that day first with the option of showing all photographs. What a great little tweak it saves a lot of time! I live a pretty interesting life, with travel to a lot of interesting places. This is a journaling program that does about everything you could ask of it. The new version has incorporated a wonderful feature showing where are you were on a map, and what you were doing this day for as far back at your journal goes. I have some photo entries of events for my grandparents, going back to the 30s!

Feature Rich Journaling App

Been using Day One to journal for several years and found it easy to use. There are some nice new features like maps & allowing multiple photos. The "looking back on this date" feature is fun to look back.

I've been wishing for the ability to make the journals into a printed book, so was happy to see that as a new feature. Unfortunately the formatting is so limited, the books end up being too many pages to practically print when one has several years of daily entries. For example, I have 3 years of entries with a single photo and 4-5 lines of text for each day, but no Year will fit in a single volume. I hope they incorporate the ability to control formatting so that one can make better use of the space. I'll hold off on doing books until they have a chance to polish this a little better. If one doesn't have a lot of photos, location maps or daily text entries, this might be a nice feature in its present state.

Update - Love the printed books!

My old review from a year ago is below, but I wanted to give a shout out saying that I LOVE the new printed books feature. I have a combination of hand written journals and Day One entries and I have long been wanting a printed version of my Day One journal to go on the shelf by my others. I was planning to print and bind a PDF, but the books are so much better and so well done. I love the stats and the maps pages for each month. Totally worth it.

--Old Review--

I have been a big fan of Day One for many years. The new update is still great, but I agree with some other reviewers that the design feels more cluttered and less visually polished then before (both on Mac and iOS). The lack of iCloud sync doesn't bother me, as I had lots of issues with iCloud (lost entries), so was already using Day One sync which seems to work great.

Feature wise, the main thing I have been waiting for is multiple pictures per entry, so that's nice to have. My biggest complaint is the iOS today widget is terrible. I love the old one - being able to pull down the Notification Center and see a few random pics from prior entries was really nice. I hope Day One plans to add this back in!! That, plus a little more visual refinement would bring it back to 5 stars for me.
