A Powerful Tool For Journaling

Well done Day One - I recommend this app to anyone looking for an easy to use journaling assist.
I've been using Day 1 for over a year, and thanks to this app, for the first time in my life I'm writing on a consistent basis. Not only am I keeping a daily (almost everyday) record of thoughts, feelings, opinions and events, but I've also developed additional journals to help track medical issues for my wife and one for me. I also have a journal for my fiction writing.
The Search tool is very useful for going back and finding key thoughts or events and putting them in context with my timeline. I love the fact that Day 1 can add time, date, location and even weather conditions as a kind of digital footnote to my entries. Being able to add photos, web links, and other net based info, enriches the quality of my content.
I'm 63 and not as tech savvy as I used to be, but this was easy to learn on the fly.

Ruined when iCloud and Dropbox got removed

I used to use this all all the time. Then the iCloud sync got removed and replaced with their own sync service that they charge for. I have already paid for a previous version and feel that I'm getting ripped off now. The developer blames Dropbox and iCloud for not supporting end-to-end encryption. But that's twisting the truth. End-to-end encryption happens on the client. The cloud isn't involved in that process, more than being used as a way to transfer the data.

Their reasoning for removing iCloud and Dropbox has nothing to do with security and everything to do with monetizing the app differently. Instead of charging a one time fee for purchase they now want people to subscribe. From a business side I understand this choice. Unfortunately I feel that their app isn't one of those essential apps that most people want to subscribe to. And from a customer who's already paid for a previous version and am now getting lied to by the dev, I can't feel anything else than that this is a ripoff.

Revised Review

I bitterly complained about losing functionality I had previously paid for when Day One transitioned to their new subscription plan. The update before last dropped me down to the "Basic" level, treating me as if I had never paid for the app. I had the same functionality as someone who has just downloaded the app for the first time and had not chosen to pay for any subscription. I was furious.

With the latest update, I have been bumped up to a "Plus" level, and the previous functionality I had enjoyed was restored; therefore, I am revising my review. I love the app and it's capabilities. I am positive there is no more professional, robust journaling app in the App Store. I am only giving it four stars, however, because I HATE subscription software. Hate it.
