What a waste of a once great franchise
The tower defense gameplay on its own isn’t very interesting or special. It’s honestly pretty bland. That’s not why this game gets two stars though. It’s because EVERYTHING is behind a long timer or pay wall. That’s normal though for a mobile game though, right? Sure. But having 1 worker unit (also what is that doing in a dead island game?) to share between opening suitcases with normal 3-8 hour timers and upgrading equipment. Let’s say you decide to open a suitcase for 8 hours. Now you cannot upgrade defenses for 8 hours. Even when you decide to to upgrade defenses, say like a turret, that turret is now offline for at least an hour. You have to make a choice between playing without viable defenses or waiting to play the game. Of course unless you give them money. But it’s a mobile game, mircrotransactions are to be expected, right? Yes. But the game needs to earn your money. This game doesn’t. It’s boring and agonizingly slow unless you put in your money to speed things up. You need workers to make the game move along faster. A single worker is over $5. $5 just to be able to work on a defense item and a suitcase at the same time. What a waste of the Dead Island name. You want to put your money towards something fun, go find the original games for dirt cheap.

they put a watered down tower defense version of the beta Pc game they shut down 2 yrs ago, and the controls on this are bad. This exact freemium game was once on Steam and ppl spent money then to buy characters and open loot crates. Then they pulled the project out of the blue, i guess no1 was enjoying playing a PayToWin game. Now they are doing the same exact thing but on mobile. I want to warn any potential buyers that this company is more than likely to shutdown your game, effectively stealing whatever money you spent on it. Also if there's any sense in you, you wont fund pay-to-wins because they are ruining all of gaming. Pay to win means giving the person with the fattest wallet a cheat to guarantee their win. This means no skill is involved in gameplay just paid-for cheats. If spending money on a flimsy company that always shutsdown their games is fun for you, then you like freemium. Also in freemium games no matter how much you spend or progress it wont matter the system is designed to always match you against stronger opponents in order to make you lose so that you will be more inclined to Pay again in the hopes of getting a win. This is the law of every freemium, and the entire game boils down to spending and losing, while progression only happens during spending.
Great idea and look, but poor game controls.
The look of DI:S is pretty and promising of an inclusive replay-able defender fort game, but the difficult controls hinder a lot of what could be enjoyed.
The control platform chooses to use a point and touch base to move your character, attack zombies and use special attacks. While it sounds easy to use, you find that you have to move your fingers all over the screen to accomplish a attack or even move which in turn blocks you’re view of what is even happening. It ends up feeling like a whack-a-mole game but less satisfying because you can’t see the cool zany effects of an attack that the trailer promises.
If the controls could be changed to a duel joy-stick on the lower part of the screen like many new popular games such as Arena of Valor or Binding of Issac, these fun effects could actually be appreciated and make the experience all the more enjoyable and replay-able. What’s the point of creating a fun looking game, when you fingers are blocking the view.
