What a GREAT app! Such a terrific story and the art is truly beautiful. I particularly like this app because my grandsons adore it and they learned so much from it. It opened a whole dialog about Symbiotic Relationships and we found out how other living forms help once another. Then we moved on and learned about Mutualism, Commensalism & Parasitism. And my 2 year-old grandson, well he just loves to make the croc’s eyes light up and making the monkeys flip and then he talks like them. And when he comes to the end, we play dentist taking turns being the croc and plover. Now we need to find out how to buy the book by this talented team. I hope we see many more apps and books from the author and artist.
Beautiful-from so many angles
It is such a treat to find a children's story that not only teaches children about West Africa and Liberia (instead of just locating the book in "Africa") but that integrates strategic reading through a tale retold. The text is carefully crafted for young readers, and the pictures are a beautiful story of their own, makingthe book/application enjoyable to all ages. As an educator I always appreciate children's stories that make the effort to locate children geographically, engage them in reading, and find learning moments all at once. I also applaude the artistic collaboration and seeing artwork from a Liberian artist. Fantastic!
What a terrific app! I got it for my seven year old and she totally engaged with it. The illustrations are vivid and the sound effects unusual and clever. The while thing is filled with a deep sense of Liberian culture and a joyful appreciation for the natural world. All the details move the story along and engage the senses. At times I had some trouble figuring out how to "turn the page," but she loved the challenge. Highly recommended!
