Designated Dialer is a drunk dialing lock for your iPhone! It will help make sure you don't wake up and look at your recent calls list, thinking "Oh no, what have I done?".
Some of you friends and I got together, and we... well, we think you've got a problem, but it's okay; Designated Dialer is the answer!
It's nothing to be ashamed of. Really, we're just worried about you. In the last month alone, you've lost three jobs, adopted several Guatemalan children, and almost started a civil war in New Guinea.
We've seen it night after night: as soon as that first beer hits your lips, you whip out your phone and start making calls. Ex girlfriends, current girlfriends, friends' girlfriends, family members, foreign heads of sta... you get the idea. Luckily, though, Designated Dialer is here to help.
Just fire it up on your way to the bar, decide who you probably shouldn't be calling, and hit "Lock my phone". Designated Dialer will edit those contacts, so every time you try calling them, you'll get our custom toll-free number reminding you that you probably shouldn't be calling them, instead.
When you wake up tomorrow, just run the app again, and pass a simple coordination test. Your contact list will be put back to normal, and you'll know you didn't make any bad phone-based decisions.
Note: Designated Dialer modifies your contact list to prevent you from dialing people. As such, if you sync your contact list with MobileMe/iTunes/etc while locked, your synced contacts will show the modified number until you unlock your contact list and re-sync.
Does the job, but not foolproof
It's important to understand the weaknesses of this app, which are not the fault of the developer. It would be impossible to make an app that would completely prevent you from dialing or texting a certain phone number, apps don't have that kind of power. So this does the next best thing by changing the number of your selected contacts to some toll free number (no idea what it goes to). When you select that contact and try to call/text them, it goes to that number. When you unlock your phone either by hitting the time limit you select, or by playing the little game, it changes the number back.
That being said, if you have any recent calls or texts from this person, they will still appear in your call/message history. The name won't be on it, just the number. So if you are hell-bent on drunkenly continuing a SMS conversation that had started earlier in the day, it will happen.
Still, this app does as much as possible to keep you from making a fool of yourself, and does make it much more difficult to contact someone you don't want to when you're drunk.
Great and Fun! Keeps me from making poor decisions!
I really like this application. It has helped me to not drunk dial exes and all that good stuff. Totally worth the 99 cents. But just in case you need more help...I have listed off my pros and cons for the app: Pros: 1. The game to lock/unlock your phone is fun and entertaining...and trust me, when you are intoxicated trying to unlock that phone list...it is downright funny and tricky...usually proving that maybe you should not make that call afterall. 2. The application really does prevent you from making phone call/text messages to those people that you list. 3. The 800 number that replaces your "do not call" contacts is hilarious. Cons: 1. A downfall is that you have to remember to clear out all of your messages from the people listed on your "do not call" contacts list or the application will not prevent you from actually calling those people. 2. The application will be of no use to you if you have the numbers of the people on your "do not call" list memorized. Other than that...the application does exactly what it says it will do! I love it!
no more drunk calls/texts
This app is very well designed. It not only prevents me from drunk dialing, but also from my biggest problem, drunk texting. I do have a wish list for this app however. I wish that you could select groups of contacts (ie, work contacts). It would also be nice if there was a way to set a time (like every friday starting at 11:00) for the application to automatically start blocking numbers (I know this would be hard since the iphone does not allow background applications).
