Unique in the industry, DesignWorks Professional works the way you do. With its intuitive graphical interface you'll be completing projects, not reading manuals. Let DesignWorks form the core of your engineering environment. DesignWorks Professional offers you the best user interface for schematic capture. The program is designed to minimize the number of mouse clicks and key strokes needed to complete a task. Most common operations, like placing a part or drawing a signal line, require no menu selections and no command typing. The powerful scripting system provides seamless integration with all your engineering tools. DesignWorks Professional doesn't just provide an environment for a single goal. It allows you to recapture your investment dollars by being flexible enough to handle all your design goals, be the goal a PCB design, Spice analysis, or simulation.
What's New in Version 4.7.7
1)Fixed MEDAGetAttrValueByName routine
2)Fixed a problem with Auto Sym when generating a PAL
3)Simulator Option - Fixed a problem with reading in timing files.
4)Simulator Option - Fixed a problem with scrolling timing window when simulation is stopped
5)Fixed a problem with file extensions when saving files, other than .cct it would not work
6)Fixed Port Connector info dialog - items were not appearing
7)Fixed a problem that allowed carraige returns to be entered into attributes that did not allow carraige returns.
8)Fixed problem with attribute dialog displaying non printable characters.
9)Added the ability to move "Group to Name" attributes to a non default location.
10)Fixed a problem with Power Symbols not setting the name on the signal line when connecting to a signal that already has a name.
11)Fixed a problem with signal Merge dialog.
12)Changed how the visibility of Page Connectors works. If you join a page connector to a signal it will take the signal name(always did) and it will display the name next to the Page Connector symbol(new feature). It respects the visibility settings for the design , instance and type.
Great but needs a little work or fine tuning.
I’ve been using DesignWorks off and on since June 2015. I’m glad they upgraded it as i’d read about previous problems.
It useful so don’t be too discouraged by the negative reviews. The user interface needs some fine tuning, for example when editing the pins on a part you’ve created the side scroll bar doesn’t drag or move easily, it jumps when you click. Instead if you attempt to use 2 fingers to scroll via the track pad the work in the middle scrolls even if you’ve clicked in the sidebar area.
It has worked reasonably well and I hope they continue to update it. There aren’t many schematic editors for the Mac they just need to fix a few things but overall it is usable you have to get around some quarks.
The only “big” problem i’ve had was today (Jan 13, 2016) and part of the reason i’m wiring this review. I came to see if there was an update or something.
I created a part in DesignWorks, it is an ARM processor with 423 pins. It’s fine in the parts editor however any time I attempt to place the part in a schematic DesignWorks crashes. I mentioned it in the crash report and I also went to their website and sent a message. I hope this is fixed soon as i’m dead in the water otherwise.
I will mention another positive thing however, it does seem to integrate with Osmond PCB very well. I used it for the first time together with Osmand PCB last week (I had Osmond first, since 2010, and only recently got DesignWorks).
It generates setlist, etc and made it very easy to layout a board that I had redesigned. Previously it was a big task when I didn’t have DesignWorks, this made it 100 times easier!
I just ask please fix this problem in a timely manner and try to fix the user interface soon. Otherwise this version (4.7.7) works well for what it is.
UPDATE: I found the problem with the part. There was an entry in the “pin sequence” field that wasn’t correct. I deleted everything from that field and it seems to be working fine now.
