Developer's Tool Kit
By Swamiware LLC
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
if you're a super star web developer, programmer, techie or forum guru then Developer's Tool Kit is your must have App.
Make your calculations easily, find a color, and have access to the exotic characters for your ROFLcopter artwork or for your work web development.
The most compelling feature is the fully categorized ANSI UTF-8 Character set. Over 10,000 characters with official names, images, and numerous ways to display them in your code, files, etc.
You get a computer science hex calculator which also does binary, octal and logic operations such as AND, OR, XOR, XNOR, and NOT.
You get a Color Wheel to quickly find that perfect RGB value for your website or programming.
And you get the full ASCII, Unicode, and UTF-8 Character set. So you can take advantage of interesting characters. Organized by name, index by Unicode value, and categorized by symbol type.
Need an arrow or star? Check out the category with just arrows. See details, including HTML tag to easily use in your web applications. View additional info for each character including: HTML shortcut, URL encoded value, hex value, C string, Octal value, and of course Decimal value.
Categories include: Stars, Labels, Science, Boxed Characters, Circles, Circled Characters, Financial, Footnotes, Squares, Rectangles, Lines, Roman Numerals, Corners, T's, Blocks, Chess, Weather, Shapes, Borders, Bars, Planets, Zodiac, Music, Cards, Triangles, Arrows, Symbols, Pronunciation, Accents, Dots, Numbers, Math, Currency, Control,Greek, and Armenian.
What's New in Version 1.2
Optimizations and minor bug fixes
I have to agree that this app is fatally flawed. If you are looking up Unicode characters by name, you can click on the alphabet index and find one quickly, but if you are searching by group or by number, there is no method provided but to scroll the screen. With tens of thousands of entries, you can imagine just how many hours you'd be doing this before you finally get to what you're looking for. There's no help nor any instructions provided, probably because there's no functionality to describe. The calculator is wack, too. If you want to convert a number to binary, and it's higher than 511, your result will be 0. The number entry method is non-standard, too. Unless the developer wants to fill in the missing functionality (and permit prior purchasers to download an upgrade) I'd have to call this one a complete waste of money.
I wasted my money on this program quite some time ago and still, after all this time, it isn't being updated and enhanced. The Unicode sections are near worthless in terms of time without a search feature. The jaggies on the Hex calculator? Yep—they're there in the app. How can some parts of this app look so good, and other parts look so incredibly terrible? If you want to charge this much money for information that can easily be had on the internet with a Google search, please follow up with your development effort and finish polishing the app. And please get someone to design an attractive icon. I know what it is, but it *looks* like a car which has been crushed by block letters.
Color Wheel Screenshot is Way Off
I bought this app specifically (or primarily) for the color wheel which looked like it would be fun to play around with. The actual color wheel in the app is NOTHING like the one in the screenshots. The color wheel on the app is hard to use and of little value. The other flaws in this app have been noted repeatedly, but I figured it would be worth it just for the color wheel... except instead I got the old bait & switch... lame.
