A surreal thriller in which the written word is your map, as well as your narrator.

DEVICE 6 plays with the conventions of games and literature, entwines story with geography and blends puzzle and novella, to draw players into an intriguing mystery of technology and neuroscience.

Anna wakes up in a castle on a remote island, with little recollection of how she got there. All she remembers is an unusually unpleasant doll.

Why are there two identical castles on the island? Who is the mysterious man in the bowler hat? And above all, what is the purpose of the tests Anna is put through?

Read, listen and peek into three-dimensional photographs to solve the bizarre mysteries of DEVICE 6.

"DEVICE 6 is designed to linger in the mind long after the last code has been cracked and the last sentence read. Spy stories - even traditional ones - often haunt their readers' dreams once they've been completed. It's only appropriate, really. Is that a final full-stop or a microdot? Is this the end of the affair or an invitation to go deeper?"
Eurogamer - 9/10

"In using its text both as narrative and as geography – and through its impressively restrained use of illustration and sound – it generates an almost unrivalled sense of place. It isn’t embarrassed to allow Device 6 to be a game when it needs to be, and yet it knows precisely when to let the story take over. The result is a sharp, striking mystery that is at once provocative, extraordinarily stylish and altogether essential"
EDGE - 9/10

"In turning a text adventure into a world map, Simogo has resurrected a long-dead genre with style and confidence. Great presentation and brilliant puzzles complete a stellar package"
Pocketgamer – 9/10

"Ever exceeding expectations, the developer has followed up one of 2013′s highlights with another title that can be classed as such. With a compelling story that keeps you guessing, and a pin-point utilisation of the platform, Device 6 is an accomplishment in games design, mobile or otherwise"
God is a Geek - 9/10

"DEVICE 6 not only explores the boundaries of narrative storytelling, it also demonstrates the creative potential of touchscreen gaming"
Appspy – 5/5

"Simogo’s doing something few others are doing, and it’s wonderful that someone is both providing great experiences and testing the limits of interactive media"
148apps - 5/5

"An ingenious slice of puzzling adventure that's as imaginative as it is stylish"
Modojo - 4.5/5

Customer Reviews

I am ashamed.

Ashamed of rating other games five stars. That's literally how good of a game this is. As another reviewer said, it's absolutely perfect as a puzzler because it's just challenging enough for me to have to really think over the hints and clues given throughout the text and in the pictures and yes, even the audio, but not so difficult that I ever had to look up a walk through on the internet (you will NOT be able to progress without the audio, so don't purchase this game if you cannot listen to the audio for whatever reason.) The story is superb, and keeps the game from being JUST a puzzler. I love reading a good book, and I love puzzle games, and this game combines the two in such a nearly flawless manner that I can make no complaints (besides my ADHD keeping me from being able to process the significance of the different devices as they are introduced one at a time throughout the game/story). I've always loved coming back to a book and rereading it later and I believe that I will similarly love coming back to this book in the future.

As I said, in the future, I shall be MUCH more hesitant about giving a game a 5 star rating, because this game outshines others so much.

Short, but Exceedingly Superb

First of all, let me start out by emphasizing how short this game is. It probably didn't take me over two hours. Replayability is also low. This wouldn't be as big of a problem if I didn't want to jump back into the story with fresh challenges and chapters.

However, those 2 hours and that first playthrough will be one of the best experiences on your device (no pun intended).

If you sit down and take the time to thoroughly immerse yourself, you will have a great time. If you enjoy a good, thought-provoking story, you will enjoy it.

All of the elements go together in a great way. The visuals are crisp, and the audio perfectly fits. Many other games say "experienced best with headphones", but this is one of the only instances when it is an absolute must. It will immerse you into its world.

You probably don't know exactly what to expect, partly because everyone tries to review Device 6 spoiler free. However, I will say this. If you are willing to pay $5 for a short but very fulfilling game, go for it. If you like to use your brain and enjoy a good story, go for it.

If you have one dollar in your iTunes balance and the game is still on sale, download it immediately.

This game is pretty spectacular. I've played some high end games and this one is up there with them. I consider it an equal to A Dark Room and the Lifeline series. This app is definitely worth it's price. I would have expected it to cost more, really. Just a few weeks ago, I played a story app that was the same price and it was no where near as good as this one. There's a reason it's in the AppStore essentials. Buy it!

Also, to you developers, you guys are really cool. I like how you make this game feel like it's connected to real life. I really think it's cool how Jonathan Eng wrote an entire song for the game. It's really catchy. The only problem I have is the swearing. I know it's not real swearing, but I'd be a lot more willing to recommend the app to my little cousins if you removed those words.
