What's New

Version 2.10.1

For this maintenance release, we have focused much of our efforts on making syncing use less resources, increasing its reliability, and syncing frequent changes more quickly. We have improved indexing EPUB and Tinderbox files, and have better support for text clipping created with macOS Sierra and later. For users of the "Move with Keyboard" script, this release has the issue fixed. In addition to increasing performance and stability, there are also some compatibility adjustments for the upcoming macOS 10.14 Mojave operating system.

No Use Research, Serious or Otherwis, Without It

Puzzled Customer

Have been using DevonThink since it was first introduced. There are no viable alternatives to the ease with which I can surf the web, select data as a text or pdf I might need for later reference from the website, and add or move that data to the relevant database via the Sorter. Once added to a database, I can move data or duplicate it to other databases as needed. The program has proved stable and reliable over the years, and there have been numerous updates adding new features. There are currently over 2,000 files (text, pdfs) in five databases. Data can be accessed by title, etc., and by a seach that creates an index showing probabilities or relevance across databases for the search word or phrase. My databases range from recipes, personal and investment documents, to databases containing search for several academic book projects. Higly recommended.

Excellent Database Program & Support

I have been using this program along with their Pro Office program for years. I switched from PC to Mac and needed to find programs that were like my PC programs. I started with the DevonNote program and soon upgraded to the DevonThink Personal. After using it for some time, I also purchased the DevonThink Pro Office program. There have been issues along the way, such as the Mac OS being updated but then DevonTechnologies support were right there to respond to my emails and request for help. (A special shout out to Jim Neumann for his troubleshooting skills). Overall, there is no program I’ve seen that can handle the note and document organazition I require.

Never thought of this as a feature, but ...

DevonThink is an excellent tool for creating and keeping records. I didn't import things into it initially, I just started using it as a database for information - including a daily journal. Lots of applications use "tags," but none in as practical way as DevonThink. Tagging a document puts a reference to this document in its folder (named for the tag), makes it much easier to work with tagged information.

Oddly enough, the major user benefit to me is something I never thought of … when you go into an existing document, you don't have to click "edit," you just start typing. I'm not aware of any software application where you don't have to select an existing document/file and then select "edit" to change it. Amazing how fluid an application becomes when you can put your cursor in an existing document and just start typing. Would never have imagined that as a benfit, but I love it. Thanks!
