*** NEW! Local Files, including Dropbox! 15+ more Syntax modes! Improved UI! And lots more. ***
What happens when you take the power of Coda, our Mac OS X web code editor, and crunch it down into a powerful, feature-packed iPad package? Introducing Diet Coda, the best way to make quick edits to your websites on the go.
We've made a powerful, feature-packed web editor with a easy-to-use, enjoyable touch interface. Now, we can travel with the iPad and know that we have the tools necessary to do our job. And thanks to AirPreview, now we can put our iPad to great use while it's sitting on our desk at work and we're coding in Coda.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
• Local Editing
Edit files locally. Even sync a Dropbox folder to your iPad, edit files locally, and those changes will magically sync to your Dropbox.
• Remote Editing
Or, edit documents right on your server or staging server.
• Powerful FTP and SFTP File Management
Open, rename, modify, change permissions, the works.
Quickly get to work on your servers.
• Syntax Highlighting
HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, Python, Ruby and more.
• Revolutionary Super Loupe
Positioning the cursor in iOS isn't fun. We've changed that forever.
• Contextual Keyboard
The right special characters at the right time.
Insert chunks of code with a single tap.
• Find and Replace
Including our ground-breaking "Wildcard" token
• Built-In Terminal
The power of Prompt built-in. A $7.99 value.
• Much More
Packed with thoughtful touches.
AND ONE MORE THING.
Use your iPad as a dedicated preview window for Coda 2 on the Mac
WHAT'LL YOU CODE ON-THE-GO? WE CAN'T WAIT TO FIND OUT.
What's New in Version 1.5.3
• Fixed a bug that prevented iOS 6 users from installing the previous version
I bought Diet Coda some time ago, but just started really digging into it today. The app is riddled with bugs - the worst is that I can only publish one update to my server and any subsequent updates fail to publish correctly, so that I have to kill and restart the app to get it to work for another update.
It sounds like Panic is working on an update – I look forward to some fixes for these serious issues. This app has a great concept and solid execution, but is not performing as it should on the latest version of iOS.
CAUTION: ABANDONED APP - DO NOT BUY THIS!
The developer seems to have abandoned this App, which says a lot about the integrity of Panic, Inc. That said, I won't be purchasing any of their products EVER. This App simply doesn't work anymore and Panic, Inc. is very aware of this but they still refuse to fix the problem and/or release any working updates. Instead, they've moved on to releasing other Apps with total disregard for their existing customers and our right to working software that we spent our hard earned money on.
Not ready for prime time
Leaves a ton to be desired compared to its desktop counterpart. Editor is a resource hog: turn off syntax highlighting if the file is over a couple hundred lines, else the app will stall and eventually crash. As others have said, needs Git and SVN support plus PIN or password protection. Disappointing. UPDATE: Terminal feature has big issues on iOS 8. Panic is aware but seems in little hurry to fix it. Abandonware?
