Buggy and missing key features

The app crashes very often, particularly when switching from any open app to this one if it’s already running. If the app is closed, it crashes upon opening it almost 100% of the time.

The app itself is missing key features that exist on the SparkPeople web site, like the ability to create food groupings, or suggest corrections to nutritional info of products that are scanned in. Now, let’s consider that for just a moment. Almost every barcode I’ve scanned in has incorrect nutritional info, sometimes dramatic. Luckily, SparkPeople lets me suggest corrections. But not on the phone, only on the web site. But the phone is the device I’m using to scan in barcodes. How does it make any sense to require that I then go to my computer and look up the product manually to suggest nutritional corrections? Let me do it on my phone!

Finally, how about enabling the sharing of favorite foods or food groupings with others? My wife and I are both users, and find ourselves spending TONS of time duplicating the same darn things. I’m pretty sure typing on my phone doesn’t count as exercise.

Really useful

I've been using this app and spark people's website for several years now. Although the journey has been on and off, I always return to spark people because I can track my food, my exercise, And use the SparkRecipes database to store my personal recipes. This is a bonus in itself. Although the app is not perfect, it is free and there are lots of support of members. Once you start using the app or website and list all your food that you frequently eat, it is very easy to track your calorie intake and expenditure. As much as I don't like advertising, I truly appreciate the free website versus paying for a monthly or yearly fee. Kudos to Sparkpeople! Also on the online website, you can map your route and use it to log your exercising.

Limited connectivity and not extensive enough

After using MyFitnessPal for years, attempting to use other apps always results in disappointment. First, it's great that you can connect to FitBit, but there are two other apps I use that don't seem to be supported. For example, I use a Bluetooth chest strap to track my workouts because to be honest the manual entry option is WAAAAAAY off from what I actually burn. The second thing is that the food search is not as extensive as one would hope, and scanning regular self items doesn't always work. I can patiently wait to enter recipes I'm cooking and determine servings based off of ingredients (an option available in MFP), but I don't have the patience to enter individual foods or meal around for typical household items or restaurant foods that are pretty common. This app is great if you have the patience for it, I'm sure, but I don't. I'll stick to MFP.
