New update needs work
My favorite app ever took anturn for the worse with this update. Most of the issues are quite fixable though. For starters, why is everything so large? It seems like an attempt to create a more elegant layout but the result is extremely clumsy. The extra large pics and huge amounts of unnecessary white space are a stark contrast to the unpretentious way in which Digg used to display articles. The bulky buttons at the bottom of the screen are not only distracting but also hard to reach on iPhone 6. The Save and "digg" buttons are now constantly taking up screen space yet harder to tap due to their small size.
I guess i could live with all those issues. But please please don't take away Dark Mode! Falling asleep in the fetal position while reading Digg on dark mode is one of life's great pleasures. I beg you, bring it back! 😭
Once an excellent source
First off, I have been using there Digg app for well over a year. In that time I tried out a variety of alternatives because I wanted to find the perfect app for me.
In that time I found Digg got better and more reliable, until articles started getting truncated under Digg. This made popular subjects harder to read into, as the sources that dived in deep were lost in the noise.
Now the app has been updated, it no longer remembers where you were in the news and so you have to work from most recent back to the last news you managed to get through if you want to see what's important.
Making matters worse, there is no obvious way to set it to always night mode anymore.
Those two issues, along with the launch of Apple News has forced me to rethink my current needs. If these issues were addressed I imagine that I could have adapted to the new interface, but given the competition I really have no reason to bother. So, unless I find myself in the need to look elsewhere for news I will likely never revisit Digg.
Good content, frustrating update
I feel bad leaving a poor review because digg has been a great news source for over a year, however I use it mostly for RSS feeds ever since Google Reader shut down. This update makes refreshing my RSS feed so much more cumbersome than before. It doesn't pick up where I left off and I can't easily see new content. I'm looking for an alternative which is unfortunate because this was my RSS but the curation (which is great BTW) always came second. I probably won't be using the app as much anymore for RSS though thus using the app less overall.
