Nice atmosphere, tedious gameplay
The atmospheric graphics and sound design are easily the best things about this game. The gameplay is tedious and unrewarding. I slogged through the first couple levels hoping to find some big, fun, secrets that would make the effort worth it. Each level has identical gameplay: try to avoid rocks and crash your sub a bunch of times until you’ve amassed enough gold to buy enough upgrades to reach the bottom, at which point you lose all your upgrades so you have to repeat the process in the next level. This might be enough for some people, but I found the lack of payoff or advancement really disappointing. It almost seems like a half-finished game; the atmosphere and basic mechanics are solid, but you’ve experienced everything Dive Inside has to offer by the end of the first level. It ain’t much.
This game is very unbalanced and frustrating to play. It’s very difficult to get through the first level (I have not done it yet), it’s unclear what I am trying to achieve...discover random secrets that have no clear meaning or cohesive story to them, collect gold to spend on improving the dive tank. After a while, the only gold I can see that is left to retrieve lies under deep ledges where I cannot access them without dying. This makes the game a frustration. I don’t play games to be frustrated. Beautiful graphics but really...don’t bother.
UPDATE: Tried it with the increased O2 capacity and it’s still frustrating to play. Perhaps if a single hit did not crash the diving tank, and there was a way to bolster the tank’s durability, I’d give it a third chance. Dive Inside still only earns 2-stars from me.
Hi! Update the game! Added extra o2 capacity!
Great idea... but really bad execution
a lot of things in this game don’t make sense, I like the idea of exploring and everything... but what’s the point of “exploring” if you get technically punished for it, you die from one hit (which is frustrating once you start getting deeper) the fish (enemy) only moves towards you once you are close to it and if it kills you, you’ll lose everything, if you try to recover what you loss the fish is going to be in the same spot, and will kill you again and again and again...
and there are a lot of things that work really bad.. it’s more strategy than exploration, you need to keep in mind oxygen, enemies, need to check the map (which they never told me it existed) to plan for a good “dive”
right now the game it’s definitely not worth the money (yes I know it’s only .99) as it feels incomplete
