"Of the major scanning apps, DocScanner's image quality is a cut above the rest." - The Wall Street Journal, January 8, 2011

Transform piles of paper to digital archive faster than ever.

Shooting an image of a document with camera is faster than scanning the document with flatbed scanner in most cases. DocScanner Mac automatically converts those images to clear PDF-documents and even detects text within. Just Drag & Drop the pile of images to DocScanner Dock icon and rest is being done fast and automatically.

DocScanner has industry leading image processing algorithms which automatically turn the picture to look like you have scanned the document with a flatbed scanner. Document gets automatically recognized within the image. Using custom algorithms DocScanner takes the most out of your camera and corrects perspective, whiteness, noise and other parts of the image to produce beautiful and clear scans.

Hardware accelerated.

DocScanner Mac makes use of the 3D accelerated graphics card on your Mac. Using these technologies, we have been able to make DocScanner to run really fast. This is especially important when you are processing vast amounts of images. All the Macs, sold since 2009 have suitable hardware.

Drag & Drop, In & Out.

DocScanner Mac takes advantage of the algorithms we have developed and tested with hundreds of thousands of users with iOS. The biggest thing we created from scratch is the user interface. It is light and fast. Just Drag & Drop pages and images within documents and you are all set.

Drag pages to Desktop or other applications. Everything works as expected.

Got an expensive DSLR? That’s great news, you can use it as a scanner.
With better quality images, DocScanner Mac is capable of creating better quality results. Modern DSLRs provide stunning image quality. DocScanner Mac is optimized to use all the information in the image to create documents with an amazing quality.

Use Evernote as your second brain.

If you are unfamiliar with Evernote, it is a cloud storage service for documents with lot of additional document related functionality, such as search and handwriting recognition. We happen to love Evernote and use it by ourselves. We have been working closely with them to make DocScanner the best Scanner App to feed your Evernote account.

DocScanner Mac has direct integration to Free Evernote Mac App. DocScanner can be found in the Evernote Trunk too. You can set Evernote account up for free or buy their premium plan.

Optimized for printing.

The plain image of a document is generally not good for printing. It is grayish, not standard sized and so on. DocScanner Mac is optimized to generate documents that will print out great. Just hit CMD-P as expected.

OCR with 13 languages.

DocScanner Mac generates PDF files with recognized text. Supported languages in alphabetical order are: Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish.

DocScanner uses fine tuned version of Tesseract as OCR engine.

Could be better

Love the iPhone app, great to create a quick scan of something you need. However this app is not as simple as drag and drop. It does have a hard time finding the correct edge and is not very intuitive.
You can set "default settings" so you'll have to switch everything to the setting you want for each and every page. If you try to give it more than about 10 images (of a reletively small image) it consumes way too many resources. I was trying to give it about 30 pages of 3mb images, froze up about half the time, used about 2-2.5 gb of ram and I had to force it to shutdown. Couldn't imagine loading it with images off of a DSLR.
In its current itteration its slow and clunky and needs better resource management. Add some default settings, and a way to just comb through and edit multiple images at once and you've got something... until then save your $15.00.

The update is a little better, it doesn't freeze up everytime you try and use it, it actually releases some of the ram after you get done with it. However, there are still a lot of bugs with this app. It takes forever to save in the DocScanner format, you still can't batch edit the images, the key shortcuts don't work and for some reason the app seems to delete my spotlight index. I think its starting to show potential, but for $15.00 its still a little much for a one trick pony that doesn't do that one thing well.

i am infuriated

this was the worst thing in the whole world, how can people steal peoples money like this and sleep well at night. i am so angry. NEVER EVER BUY

Easily the worst application I've ever wasted money on. It downloaded fine and opened to a splash screen that had all grayed out (as in unavailable) functions. I had to launch Photo Booth to access my camera (Was this what they intended??? Who knows? No instructions!) Took a pic of my doc. I dragged the pic to this app and opened it. Well . . . it looked like a few scratches. So, I got a typed doc, same process - a bunch of more scratches.. So - obviously it isn't going to take a whole standard 8.5 x 11 page. So, held it close to the camera. Nice pic! Tried OCR and got these amazing results:

"noznd nwqmmq bqinmg gmed no '(llmm10] IJo'{a1sluJs1gn"

. . . and so on. Do NOT spend your money on this thing I would uninstall it if it was free. If I want a pdf of my built in camera shot - I'll simply save to pdf. Sheesh.
