UI problems with iOS 11(.1)
Support has been on/off for years. Sadly, seems to be off now.
Keyboard keeps popping away when you try to fill an input field (this may only happen when the page is still loading, but there’s no way to tell when that has completed), copy/paste is completely non-functional and often there’s no way to hit the dismiss-“x” on a pop-over frame (not really a frame, more like a window-within a page, I don’t know the technical term).
That being said, the gesture browsing is addictive and it has some built-in ad blocking that just about makes the internet bearable. Other than that it's an uncluttered no-nonsense browser with a highly intuitive interface.
The bad (which was always bad, nothing new for this version):
theres very little distance between changing tab and closing a tab and it insists (somewhat inconsequently) on limiting the number of open tabs.
It tries to render a page as it loads it (and this is somewhat related to the keyboard issue), which is OK as long as you're not tempted to click a link on that page. You have no idea when the browser considers the page load complete and items are in their final position, so if you click early, you're on random-web.
Decent browser, regular developer shenanigans
In this version, the devs are offering free in-app purchases in return for five-star reviews (in direct contravention of App Store rules). Keep that in mind.
In past versions, there've been things like injected banner ads. Currently, you'll notice a lot of redirects and user tracking— maybe this is part of their system for blocking ads, but the behavior is highly suspicious, and with their track record this new development is finally enough for me to uninstall it from all of my devices.
It's a decent browser in general; I just wish I could travel back in time and never have supported these business practices with my dollars. Especially now that there are decent iOS browsers out there.
Back to 5 stars.
Last week they released an update that broke the browser. It wouldn’t even launch. Yesterday they released an update that fixed the problem. Good for them! Glad to have my favorite browser back, after being forced to use the crappy Safari browser for a week. (I’d forgotten how invasive Web ads can be. Using Safari reminded me.)
