Korean Verbs: Dongsa

By Max Christian

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

Just enter a verb in its infinitive form (e.g. 하다, meaning "to do") and you'll be presented with the many different forms of the verb, all correctly spelled - 했어 (past), 하겠어 (future conditional) and so on. No more having to check with a native speaker when writing unfamiliar verbs!

The app doesn't have a dictionary of verbs; instead it actually understands the rules that govern how all Korean verbs are formed. It explains how each verb is formed, which is a great learning aid.

There's also a web-based version, the full source code and more at Dongsa is by Dan Bravender with this iPhone version by Max Christian.

What's New in Version 1.1

Disabled autocorrect when entering a verb stem.

Great App

I have been studying Korean for a long time. I have a book at home called 500 Korean Verbs which is really helpful but wasn't any good when I wasn't at my desk. So I decided to make an app that would help me with conjugations. Before I did so I wanted to check the app store and found this little gem. Very good job guys! Thanks for making it free too (though I would have paid a buck).

Update: many months later I still find it useful and use it a few times a week. Thanks again!

So convenient

This is a great app to use when I want to know various conjugations. I like that it has separate tabs for present, past and future. What would be even better is if the app had the ability to do reverse stem and provided definitions. Both of these features are offered on the browser version of the app, so I know it is possible. I would even pay for it if it was an upgrade option. Anyway, food for thought. Great job!!

Super easy to use

Easier than a book, since I always have my phone with me.
