Don't Look Back is a short game I made in 2009.

Some reviews of the original version:

"A perfect example of doing more with less" - The Escapist

"Every game with a lead character necessarily has a moral. Every single one. It's just rare that the moral is so uplifting." - Jayisgames

"It may be a pop song, but it´s like a Smashing Pumpkins single or something, from a concept album." - PlayThisThing

This is a MUST-PLAY! An undiscovered classic

This grim monochrome game starts out a casual, mario-esque, 8-bit platformer, and winds up a beautiful retelling of a classic Greek myth! Without using a word of dialogue or more than 10 seconds of cutscene, Terry Cavanagh crafts a beautiful story with the gameplay mechanics. (I won't spoil anything, but there's a reason why it's called "Don't Look Back"). He also uses the games challenging, almost-but-not-quite frustrating difficulty to represent the main character's struggle through what must only be Hell.
The ending has an incredible twist that takes a little deep thinking to really understand. The gameplay itself, though simple, is very difficult, yet satisfying. Good reflexes alone won't get you through it. You'll have to look at the field and strategize the bet way to get through it, adding a puzzle element to the game.
The game is so short you can get through it in one sitting, but it's the perfect length for this title. The graphics are just good enough to tell the story but they work well for this game. If you love classic Atari games or games that make you think, this little gem is for you!

Very poignant! Proves even the simplest of things can touch and move the very core of you.

I rarely, once in a blue moon write reviews for apps. I am a born gamer, 19 years of age, and a huge critic of all the lame, time consuming games on the app store. I conquered this game in a short period of time. Typically I would then delete the app and continue on my search for a quality game. This gem has not only proved to be of such worth as to extend it's stay upon my iPad but has even motivated me to stop all other iPad activities and get my but onto this page to write a glowing review of admiration! This game is simple, easy to use but it hooks the heart at the beginning and coaxes you on the journey with it's haunting melodies. The challenge was sufficient enough that there should be a plethora of pixelated bodies strewn across D.LB.'s land scape. Patience with this game surely pays out as the game unfolds itself as you progress. I will be playing this game again and again to witness the beautiful story and it's twists impress themselves in concoradance with the very core principles of my mind and twinge and tune my heart strings.

Also, I like bacon.

Great emotional old school experience

From the moment you enter "don't look back" you're presented with a feeling of bitterness, loneliness and death. The starting screen tells you all you need to know, yet leaves the question of what you're exact goal is. The atmosphere and music painted through your journey really sets a specific tone and a feeling of uncertainty. Emotion, something a lot of new "old school" games don't know how to fully present.
The gameplay gives you the platform feeling you've been dying for in packaged in a mobile game, requiring extreme precision in most areas. Luckily the dev has printed the on screen buttons in near perfection, giving you a pleasant set of controls with out the feeling of lusting for a physical game pad or controller. By the time you reach the end of your quest, you'll be left with a shocking unexpected answer, but also lingering in your mind is another question. Trust me when I say you'll be jumping right back in to want to play over and over again.
Thank you for a wonderful experience
