Description

This official U.S. Department of State app is designed to educate those interested in careers in American diplomacy, or more specifically, diplomatic careers in the Foreign Service, and allow those who are unfamiliar with the Foreign Service to discover what it’s all about. The State Department’s Foreign Service employs U.S. citizens who are either Foreign Service Officers or Specialists. The Foreign Service Careers app explains and provides information on the five different Foreign Service Officer career tracks: Consular, Economic, Management, Public Diplomacy and Political, as well as the eight different Specialist areas: Administration, Construction Engineering, Facility Management Information Technology, International Information and English Language Programs, Medical and Health, Office Management and Security. In addition, aspiring diplomats can watch videos and learn about the experiences of State Department employees who have chosen this career, as well as take practice tests to help prepare for the Foreign Service Officer test (FSOT). Those who download DOSCareers can connect directly with a State Department recruiter. Just click on Attend An Event and you can find recruitment events close to your geographic location. Or contact a Diplomat in Residence (DIR) closest to your geographic location. DIRs are career U.S. diplomats who are located throughout the United States and are responsible for providing guidance and advice to students, professionals and the community about Department careers. You can even explore the day-to-day responsibilities of Foreign Service employees when you choose the Interactive Experience.

U.S. citizenship is required for all Foreign Service careers.

Test Yourself Glitch

I downloaded the app for the main purpose of reviewing sample test questions. When I logged into the app, all the questions were already marked as incorrect, and there correct answers had a green check mark. It isn't really useful at the moment for that purpose. There is however, some useful general information about the FSO process. I already knew this from reading through the website, so I likely will not be using the app until the Test Yourself section is sorted.

Test Yourself Bug

I logged on yesterday to find that all of the 'Test Yourself' questions had been marked as incorrect. When I open each question, the correct answer is marked with a green check. I have only worked through about 20% of all the questions in the app but it now says that there is a 0% completion rate and it does not allow me to reset the questions.

Questions already marked as answered

There's some bug in this version that marks all answers to the practice questions before you take the practice quizzes. Makes the app kinda pointless.
