This official U.S. Department of State app is designed to educate those interested in careers in American diplomacy, or more specifically, diplomatic careers in the Foreign Service, and allow those who are unfamiliar with the Foreign Service to discover what it’s all about. The State Department’s Foreign Service employs U.S. citizens who are either Foreign Service Officers or Specialists. The Foreign Service Careers app explains and provides information on the five different Foreign Service Officer career tracks: Consular, Economic, Management, Public Diplomacy and Political, as well as the eight different Specialist areas: Administration, Construction Engineering, Facility Management Information Technology, International Information and English Language Programs, Medical and Health, Office Management and Security. In addition, aspiring diplomats can watch videos and learn about the experiences of State Department employees who have chosen this career, as well as take practice tests to help prepare for the Foreign Service Officer test (FSOT). Those who download DOSCareers can connect directly with a State Department recruiter. Just click on Attend An Event and you can find recruitment events close to your geographic location. Or contact a Diplomat in Residence (DIR) closest to your geographic location. DIRs are career U.S. diplomats who are located throughout the United States and are responsible for providing guidance and advice to students, professionals and the community about Department careers. You can even explore the day-to-day responsibilities of Foreign Service employees when you choose the Interactive Experience.
U.S. citizenship is required for all Foreign Service careers.
What's New in Version 1.8
• iOS 7 optimized
• Minor bug fixes and updates
Government, History, Community development, and Politics have always been an interest of mine. This app is a great way to get a look into a potential career, way of life, and service satisfaction in working for this bureaucracy. I am impressed and have favored the interactive scenarios from specific career positions.
Brief Histories Included
I was surprised to find small histories and facts about the countries that the Department's public servants are sent to. Otherwise, the app is informative about what's expected in foreign service.
Also, easy to navigate.
