Fun for a while and then tedious
In the beginning this is a fun game as everything moves at a decent pace. I did have some technical problems with the app eating up all my internal storage. I cannot leave this app running in the background. If I open it, do what I have to do and then force close it by swiping up after double clicking the home button it seems to work fine, but that's a pain if you want to just set the device aside for 10 minutes or so without having to reload the game from scratch.
Once you get the initial village set up, things take a turn for the worse. It takes forever to collect the numbers of fish and wood you need for missions. Leveling up dragons once you hit level 30 or so starts get over 8 hours for some. The missions are repititious: Level up dragons, build things, level up the Meade Hall - all of which take time.
The worst is the special missions. These simply cannot be accomplished unless you spend runes every time you send Toothless out. Even then not sure you could make it. I know these companies need to make money, but it gets a little ridiculous - especially when it comes to buying Barf and Belch and Hookfang. You have a limited window to get the 4 dragons other than Toothless at half off, but even then it would cost you $10 for Hookfang and $20 for Barf and Belch. If you miss that window, it then costs you $50 to buy 2 dragons. Insane.
I downloaded this game back in May. I love it, sadly, it is inherently flawed. About two weeks ago the game would not open; I tried all the suggestions on the forum, including deleting and reinstalling the app, to no avail. After several emails (and about 5 days total emailing back and forth) to support, the game was "reset", and they threw in some extra ruins for the inconvenience and to basically reimburse me for the money I spent on ruins. I did ask support what they thought the problem was but they refused to answer this pointed question. "My" Berk was back, for 5 1/2days- I am having the same issue, yet again. I have tried all the tricks, again... And nothing. So I've sent yet another email to support- this time asking for a monetary refund. The game is fun, and I've spent more time playing it than I care to admit; but I will not be playing again- I can't justify spending time and money on a game I need to have reset every week. I have an iPhone 5, OS up to date, I don't run more than one app at a time, etc so I have no idea what the problem actually is.
-Note: Ludia personnel are rude and completely unhelpful making this game not worth the headaches. Beware of runes, dragons etc appearing and disappearing and their staff saying they cannot help.
Fun but frustrating
I've really enjoyed this game, however it's become increasingly frustrating recently. The collections are really not worth my time because it takes forever to accumulate what you need for something that I can just use my dragons to get after only a few hours. I agree with some other reviews that the new pop-up adds are really annoying and that the game isn't well balanced in regard to fish vs lumber. I never am able to keep enough fish because everything costs so much to level the dragons whereas my lumber almost always stays to the max even when I'm sending dragons to train every day. Also, it's frustrating that there isn't more land on berk to be able to use your max level of dragons and build more building like another lumber mill and fishing hole area would be nice. Overall, I really like this game and the new battle feature is fun though I never try to use or acquire the battle dragons because the collections take too long to achieve. Thanks!
