The development of anatomy as a science that studies the structure of living things, extends from the earliest examinations of sacrificial victims of ancient times, to the sophisticated analyses of the body performed by modern scientists. It has been characterized, over time, by a continually developing understanding of the functions of organs and structures in the body. The field of Human Anatomy has a prestigious history, and is considered to be one of the most prominent of the biological sciences of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Methods have also improved dramatically, advancing from examination of animals through dissection of cadavers to technologically complex techniques developed in the 20th century. Anatomy is one of the cornerstones of a doctor’s medical education, being a persistent portion of medicine teaching from at least the renaissance.

Gross anatomy (the study of anatomy at the macroscopic level) has also become a key part of visual arts. Basic concepts of how muscles and bones function and deform with movement is key to drawing, painting or animating a human figure. Many books are written as a guide to drawing the human body anatomically correct and Artistic Anatomy is nowadays a common subject of study in most Art academies. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the first artist who sought to improve his art through a better understanding of human anatomy. In the process he advanced both human anatomy and its representation in art. Since Leonardo's time, many famous artists studied anatomy, attended dissections, and published drawings for money, from Michelangelo to Rembrandt.

Antique Anatomy Artists Adore

Thank you for the app. As is immediately app-arent, the interface is lovely and easy and simple to use. There are a great many prints and drawings by the classic anatomists of the past. Useful for artists still today. The illustrations, though not all high definition, are good enough to reference for drawing study and copying--and I mean that in the old sense: copying from the masters, with a pen in hand, and an ink bottle beside the drawing paper.
Beautiful, efficient. A modern anatomy like the Richer & Hale Artistic Anatomy, with just the plates, would be a great second act.
Thanks again.

Great simply great
