Incredible piece of art.
I have nothing but good things to say about this game. I do realize that there are flaws and bugs and issues with it, but looking at it from a different perspective, that of a fellow human being and not a customer, I understand the difficulty and struggles that the developer of this game has gone through to get his creation out to the public. The game was tested on every decide by the developer before he released the game and they all worked. There's no way he could have known that it would crash for so many people. He couldn't test every single individual iOS product ever manufactured. Some people say the game runs fine on their 3G, others can't get past the intro on their 3G. There are so many variables as to why that is that one man can't possibly expect to fix right away and know the exact problem. I understand that people have a right to be upset that they spent money on something that doesn't work, but the rudeness and disrespect in many of the comments genuinely bugs me. If the dev just up and dropped support of the game and gave a big "Too bad." to those of you with the issues, it would be understandable, but he is still trying, hence the several updates, even if they haven't been the miracle fix for everyone. Give the guy a break is all I'm saying.
fails to meet its potential
This game had the potential to be one of the best games in the app store but ultimately it falls short of this goal. It has gorgeous graphics and it really does a great job of making you feel as though you're in another world, but the experience doesn't last long enough and the actual gameplay is shallow and too unresponsive. The only interaction you have is moving through the world and inside some of the buildings and scenes that require you to swipe in a series of sequential directions in order to proceed to your next goal. Many times the swiping is unresponsive making for inaccurate and repetitive swipes which ultimately lead to frustration. If this game had more missions/objects to find, added locations and improved gameplay (such as items you have being in an inventory and you have to bring the item up from inventory and interact with it to use it, instead of swipe left, right, left it could become one of the best games I've played, but not as it stands. The free-roaming mode does very little to add any replay value to the game. I've already roamed all the spots on the map, why would I want to do it again with no motivation behind it? The bottom line: It's a fun and fairly engaging experience but much like a carnival ride the thrill comes to an end far too soon and there's no reason to get back on once you've already rode it.
GREAT game, with a few technical setbacks
As reviewer Andyyyyyyy said before me, this is the kind of app that, IMO, makes the App Store really shine (and I'm not even one to use my iPad for gaming of any kind!). Eerie setting, somewhat simple but good enough plot to keep me intrigued, nice sounds that aren't distracting, interesting gameplay overall.
The cons: I think the joystick movement controls are fairly awkward, difficult to get used to. More so, the map doesn't show your current location, and with everything so spaced apart (as far as I've reached, at least), and one building (the barn) not even on the map, it kind of defies the purpose of its existing in the first place. I tend to rely heavily on maps in games such as these, so I would love to see that improved.
My last complaint is that although I've gone over the walkthrough after having triggered the scene requiring the bug spray (and being told I was silly for looking in the wrong place:P), I cannot pick up the can of spray. I've looked online and it appears that I'm not the only one struggling with this issue. I can proceed no further without this working, which would be a heavy disappointment as I'm so fond of my impression of the game so far. After I pass this point, I'll increase my rating a star; if the creators improve the map and/or movement issues, I'll rate it a full five for sure.
