One of My Favorite Retro-Style Games Ever!

This game is great, the pixel art is incredible, music (besides the final boss) is also great, and for the cheap price, the game is definitely long enough, although part of me wishes there was DLC for this game, I’m content with what I got. And yes, I am aware of Drop Wizard Tower, but I like the design of this game a little bit more. The music is just so perfect, except for one piece, the final boss music is not good, the instrumental sounds good, but the opera singing doesn’t fit, the opera should’ve been left out of that music...

If I had to choose between this game and Drop Wizard Tower, I would definitely choose this game, both have a lot of replay ability, but the music and bosses from this game win me over.

I’ve read a lot of these reviews, and most people who don’t like the game all have one thing in common, the controls. And I think these people are stupid to be honest with you. The game is already pretty easy, but if it had “touch and hold” controls for movement, it would not have any challenge AT ALL, having your player constantly move means you need to pay attention, like in Dig Dug or Pac-Man you are always on the move, and it adds some much needed challenge to this otherwise extremely easy and hyper-casual game.

And to the people who called this a Kirby rip-off, you confuse me, I don’t see this wizard inhaling enemies and I don’t see Kirby falling down from the sky, other than the graphics and music, this game is vastly different from Kirby mechanically, and if you’re really basing the rip-off claim on graphics and music alone, then this game is literally a rip-off if every retro game in existence, and trust me, it’s not.

This game is wonderful! The design is airtight, with seamless and consistent high-end pixel art that Nintendo themselves couldn't outdo. (Drop Wizard takes a lot of visual cues from the Kirby games, an obvious inspiration.) I love the main gameplay mechanic: it's fresh, but still has a familiar platformer feel. The characters and environments succeed one another in a very elegant way that allows you to pick up the game's ideas intuitively without rushing. Drop Wizard is PeRfEcT for mobile devices and seems truly designed with the platform in mind, not something I can say about many other developers. The music (and sound design!) is emotional and nostalgic, the art is thorough and detailed and cute, and the levels are clever and fun! One of my favorite iOS games to date. :-)

Fun stuff!

Took a second to get used to the mechanics, but once I did it was really fun and addictive. Some people seem to dislike that the character is always moving, but to me that adds to the challenge. I mean, all you are doing is pressing 2 directions. The game needs a way to stay fast paced and I think maybe that is why they did that. Retro games were always tough and you would die a lot until you got the rhythm down. But that's what I liked about them. This game has that element to it, along with great retro graphics and 16-bit music. Is this up to par with a Super Nintendo game with the Super Nintendo controller? Of course not. But for a 99-cent iPhone game this is really quite great!
