Drumtapz is a free sixteen pad drum playing app. There are sixteen drum sounds assigned to the pads on the iPad version and two banks of eight pads on the iPhone version. For rapid playing there is a re-trigger pad that plays the drum sound of the last pad touched for rapid playing of the same sound. Volumes are individually adjustable.
Instead of a metronome to play along with, we have included a single channel programmable step playback mode called the step metronome. Any of the sounds can be assigned to the step metronome and the tempo can be adjusted from 20 to 220 bpm.
What's New in Version 1.2
Now a Universal App. Sample choice controls re-arranged in order of the (iPad) drum pad layout.
This could be good
If you can get past the idea that the drum sequencer can only play one drum sound at a time then you might like this app.
I could see the potential to make it something more then just a metronome but it would have to be developed more and the time would have to be put in to get it there.
You can manually tap out drum beats on the 16 pads. If you go to the sequencer there are two bars to program. The only downside is that the program only triggers the current drum sound selected. So say you program a line of high hat hits. Like a normal song would be,say,16th notes for those that know a little music. The sequencer will play the high hats only. To get another drum sound you must trigger, say, the bass drum, but the sequencer, only being one channel still plays the program you set for the high hats. So every sequence is the same 16th note just press a different pad and it changes from playing snare drum,or the next sound you trigger. It seems that this app is promoting itself as a programable metronome and it will work as that. Don't expect it to be anything above and beyond. Try it out. It might be something your looking for. It could have been a great drum machine. It seems like it should have been and perhaps the developer bailed and left us with a single drum sequencer and called it a metronome function. That's just my take. Later.
More drum sounds would be nice. And the ability to sequence more than one sound at a time. Would pay for a better version.
This app was a lot of fun to play around with drum sounds! Download it!
