So disappointing!

This game was a huge disappointment! I beat it in a few days of playing it on and off. I was expecting there to be a few more levels after I beat the first set of dungeons but that was not the case. Kind of a waste and not worth the repeat play. I honestly felt kind of cheated with this game.

Great word game, and this coming from a virgin to the "word/spelling" genre

i am not a big player of the many word games out there, but the style of this one (dungeon crawling) took my interest. i am doing very well in the kid difficulty, so that builds confidence, and the ability to see words quicker, so i can move back to the normal difficulty.
i like the addition of "magic" tiles, if you use them in the game they do more damage, or even find the best possible word to use (oracle tile), i used the oracle special tile once, and it made a word worth 720 damage, 60k points with a bonus of 20k, so if you save the oracle magic tile for a "boss" monster, it works out great. you can also get a potion to get back health. you will also uncover books that allow you to choose a little boost of some sort (as seen in the pictures).
the game at it's base is, spell a word witht he tiles provided to cast a spell, while you take damage over time from the monster your facing. you have to kill a certain number of monsters to get through that level of the dungeon and move on to the next level. i didn’t realize this at first and died on normal trying to figure out more words to spell.

a casual word game classic, now on the ipod

I've loved this game since it was first released on PC, and it is still just as awesome now.

Dungeon Scroll takes the simple concept of a word game and actually makes it exciting (unlike 99% of all other word games out there). You are a wizard casting "spells" (words) to damage a monster. As time passes, the monster will deal damage to you- so there is an element tension, a driving force. You can spell lots of short, simple words quickly and kill your enemies that way, but by doing so you can't achieve the points to get on the leaderboard. Some enemies require at least 4 letter words to be damaged, while others deal damage very quickly but only have a little bit of hp. Then there are the boss monsters with lots of hp and damage, who make you scramble for new words before you lose all your health.

This is a simple idea but the execution makes it very enjoyable while offering the player enough choices for complexity. I only wish that there was a sequel, with even more depth and different monsters. Maybe you could even take this a step further and add in RPG/leveling elements?
