Devoted user - not a fan of update.
I am a long-time user of Duolingo, and its services have been near and dear to me on a, quite literally, daily basis. The team has worked hard to develop enriching features for the app, and is necessary for the continual maintenance of the app.
Nonetheless, and though I understand that the developer needs to make ends meet, the addition of more monetary systems, such as heart refills (where the core mechanic of language learning should have absolutely no fiscal barrier), the removal of features (such as the streak bet), and the devaluation of hard-earned currency (before, 600 lingots got you 60 streak freezes, while the 1100 gems you get for that many lingots gets you 2, not even 3 streak freezes) demands of users like me far more than the patience already required to keep up with the rapid changes to the app's mechanics.
Although it may seem a bit melodramatic, I want it to be clear that do now want this app to die - or in any way diminish in its popularity - as it is the main way that many users access the services of Duolingo. I cannot say that I know how to solve Duolingo's fiscal problems, but I at the same time cannot support the current changes made to app; I encourage change, and have appreciated prior changes (like a payment option to recover a lost streak), but those made in this last update have discouraged the app's use from me, a committed user.

Duolingo is amazing beyond words! I got it originally to learn Spanish because I was switching schools the next year and learning Spanish was required, and I knew nothing. I went on a tour of the school about a month after I got Duolingo and I was already ahead of the class. Now I've been using Duolingo for almost 6 months, every day. I love it so much because it's simple and it doesn't take much time, about 10 minutes. It's also super fun and keeps you wanting more. I love the aspect of clubs, but I wish there was a way to chat with everyone on the main club page. I also wish you could freeze your streak for more than one day. Some of the sentences they teach you get a little repetitive and some of them are sentences I would never say ("it's time to present your boyfriend") for example. One more suggestion, it would be nice if your topics didn't lose strength so quickly. It gets way too difficult to keep up with them when you've completed the whole tree. But anyways, Duolingo is one of my all time favorite apps and it has so much to offer. With so many languages to learn in such a simple, quick, easy, fun and social way, there's not a better language app! I can't wait to see where it goes!

So Effective For Learning!
This app is simply wonderful. I have been trying to learn português and have been successful at it thanks to this app. They sort out learning sessions from learning basics to learning things such as animals, political talk, foods, sports, etc. The really nice part is that there are conversation bots that you can speak freely with and it helps tremendously with putting words into context. If you don't know what to say, they will even help you. What's great about this app is that it's so encouraging and it motivates you. Not to mention, they will have you review previously completed lessons so that you are always brushing up on things. They teach you through various methods: visually, aurally, verbally, and even with writing. One addition that would be nice is if you could speak, but I just repeat after them and practice that way. I also say the words that I type/read. If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for other language programs, this is a GREAT app! They even have a flash card app that you can connect with to two reinforce, review, and assist with. They are both great for all ages, kids and adults. 10/10, I would highly recommend!!
