A Half Effort

This program could be good, but lack of features and attention to details limits its usefulness. It is very slow, even scanning my SSD drive. When it does fid a duplicate, thre is not "show in finder". The column headers on the detail information, so with long file names, the last part of the file is cut off. This leaves me doing the final part of the job manually. I wrote this review after waiting 10 minutes for it to scan my home folder, and it's still going, stuck on a javascript library. OK, now it's done. It found lots of png files with different names in different folders that are part of a web application. Deleting these will break the application. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell it to ignore this app next time it runs. This app has the potential to be good, it just needs a few mmore features to make it useful.

Falls way short.

Apps are supposed to make life easier. This one make it much more difficult. It seems obvious that the builders of this app don’t use it for it is essentially non functional for what I would think are easy to fix problems.

I give this app and it’s developers and E for Effort (it’s pretty) and E for Empty of value.

1. The column displaying the list of duplicates found is SO narrow that only a few letters (6-10) of the file names are shown and there is no way to widen that column. On it’s face, a similar app has the same layout but allows that column to open wider and reveal the full document names.
2. I like the basic group sort by file type. That’s a nice touch but pales in comparison to the absense of ANY sorting of the found duplicates.
3. Found duplicate files are not sorted by name, not by size, not by kind, NADA. Now, not only can you not see the full name (except as you select one at a time the full file names shows in the lower right box), you have to hunt through the long list of randomly ordered found duplicates and guess which ones might be of a size worth bothering with. Since other apps provide the file size and sort by this factor, I have no interest in using this one.

Simple and Easy

The overall design is simple and accessible but with a lot of shortcomings. For instance, there are options to scan your Downloads, Music, Movies and Pictures files but if you’ve moved them to a different area of the disk, it won’t find them. There are also some odd things about the UI - the base size for listing the amount of duplicates you’ve selected is TB - I sometimes barely have a GB of duplicates and misspellings (“file has deleted”).
