I like this app
This is a cool-looking app. It's a clock, but that's not it's real appeal, and the clock itself is tucked away up in the top left corner, as you can see. There are also a variety of options to express elapsed time, how many days + hours have elapsed this year, days + hours this month, and so on. There is an elapsed time counter you can start and restart, and a pause/play button, although it wasn't immediately clear what it pauses.
Visually, the app looks amazing. There are three different 'rotating earth' animations you can set to play in the background, and all three are just way cool. (Suggestion: while users can pause the background anis, it would also be nice to offer users the option of varying the speed at which the ani's play.) One of the three animations also displays the rotating earth moving in one direction, with a separate layer of cloud visuals moving over it in a different direction; the effect is very appealing. There are also a wide and interesting variety of statistics available, in nine different categories. The numbers change for the various stats, but apparently the stats themselves do not. As an example, there are statistics listed under Global Statistics, Middle East for "$ Oil Revenue Earned by Saudi Arabia" and also for Iraq, but those are apparently the only Middle East countries the app will show stats for. (Suggestion: offer a wider variety of statistics, and display a selection of them each time the app is opened, so the same stats don't appear each time.) Also, while the statistics shown are apparently accurate, be aware that they are estimates, and not to be taken as actual real-time representations.
There is an Information button in the bottom right corner, but it only brings up a legal disclaimer. There do not appear to be any additional controls beyond those displayed on the main screen.
(Suggestion; because of the large number of statistics displayed, the text for each is fairly small. The backgrounds of two of the animations is dark enough that the white text can be easily read against them. But one of the three shows a fair amount of clouds in the background, and the white text is sometimes hard to read against the clouds. For this reason, it would be helpful to offer users the option of varying the text color.)
As I said, I like this app, I think it just looks very cool sitting on a desk or counter. If you enjoy visually impressive apps, then I think you'll enjoy Earth Stats HD Clock.
