What's New in Version 1.4.1
New reports and an updated look.
Fantastic app, but subscription price is ridiculous
I downloaded this app last night. It was a bit confusing at first, but I'm figuring it out without looking at any help articles yet. I like the simplicity and the "tangible" envelope method. As a single 25 year old, the free version will be almost perfect for me. I think the 1-year limit on transaction history is silly. But the subscription price of $15 for 3 months or $24 for 6 months is even more absurd. As a single young adult, my budget is simple enough that I don't need all the extra envelopes, accounts, and devices included with the subscription. I only want transaction history that lasts longer than one year. And with my current, limited finances (the reason I want to track them so well), $5 each month for a couple of kilobytes of storage seems like a ripoff.
My parents, on the other hand, would make a lot more use of the plus features. I would possibly recommend this app to them, as long as I set it up for them and teach them how to use it.
My point is that the app is good, but it is overpriced for individuals with simple finances and low incomes. There should be more middle-ground.
Great home budget app. Time-tested methodology.
We’ve been using Goodbudget to manage our household finances for 4 years now. Thanks for keeping it updated and fresh. And support has always been super-helpful when we’ve occasionally needed it.
The envelope budgeting methodology on which Goodbudget is based means proactive budgeting (rather than reactive reporting). Basically you set aside funds in advance and then spend them on a declining basis. My wife and I used this method for years and wrote expenses on an actual envelope filled with the month’s cash for groceries.
Now we enter expenses in Goodbudget—on our devices on the spot, or else on the Web. The status bars tell you what you have left to spend in each category and whether you're ahead or behind for the month. Seamless sync that tolerates poor wireless connections makes it a pleasure to use. Thank you.
Easy to use but needs a few changes
My income changes every month so this app was perfect for keeping myself organized. It's easy to use, covers the basics and allows me to enter my income as I get it. I put everything into "unallocated" then transfer specific amounts into envelopes where it's needed most. I highly recommend this app if all you need is a simple budget system.
There are definitely some options for improvements. I am not willing to pay for monthly subscriptions for this type of app. It's way way to basic for that. However I would pay a one time fee to add extra envelopes, or one time fee to add a couple years of backup transaction history. So I could compare this years monthly spending to last year or year before. Maybe that sounds complicated but I would be willing so spend some money to have permanent features added. Not temporary for a couple months.
