What's New in Version 1.4.1
New reports and an updated look.
Faithfully use this app, see room for improvement.
This app has completely replaced my cash envelopes and has helped us completely stay in sync between our bank account and my very complicated spreadsheet I have with our budget.
I love that you can have up to 20 envelopes, though the way they're set up (10 free for monthly and 10 free for annually) I've had to play with to basically maximize my envelopes without paying any extra for the app. I like that you can do so much from your phone and that you can export it to an excel document at any time.
Filling envelopes can be a pain because you have to know how much money total you're going to put into them. Also, I don't like that the location button is always on when recording transactions. I'd also like a feature on the phone where entries could be flagged -- for instance, when we go to a restaurant and my husband tips. If he doesn't keep the receipt, I don't know the top until the transaction goes through several days later.
I like that you can split a charge into envelopes, and that you can set up automatic charges and credits, though a lot of that you can only do on the computer. You can also transfer between envelopes which is cool as well.
Overall, this app is so great for keeping our money straight and we are going to be debt free in DECEMBER!
Fantastic app, but subscription price is ridiculous
I downloaded this app last night. It was a bit confusing at first, but I'm figuring it out without looking at any help articles yet. I like the simplicity and the "tangible" envelope method. As a single 25 year old, the free version will be almost perfect for me. I think the 1-year limit on transaction history is silly. But the subscription price of $15 for 3 months or $24 for 6 months is even more absurd. As a single young adult, my budget is simple enough that I don't need all the extra envelopes, accounts, and devices included with the subscription. I only want transaction history that lasts longer than one year. And with my current, limited finances (the reason I want to track them so well), $5 each month for a couple of kilobytes of storage seems like a ripoff.
My parents, on the other hand, would make a lot more use of the plus features. I would possibly recommend this app to them, as long as I set it up for them and teach them how to use it.
My point is that the app is good, but it is overpriced for individuals with simple finances and low incomes. There should be more middle-ground.
Finally keeping track of my money!
I've been using Goodbudget for almost a year now, and it's been so helpful for keeping track of my money. I never really kept track of my spending and income before, but now that I actually have a steady job and am paying rent it's a lot more important now. By seeing my spending patterns with the reports, I've been able to notice trends in unnecessary spending (such as on fast food and candy) and cut back to save for things like vacation. It's crazy seeing how a few dollars here and there can add up, and this app is helping me realize that! I especially love that I can input my expenses immediately with this app so I don't forget to do it later. The plus subscription is totally worth it to have unlimited accounts and envelopes, because I really need help organizing everything, and I get all my questions answered by the great support team, too!
