Slow Down, Slim Down. Eat Slowly for the iPhone was created for those of use that eat too quickly. Scientific studies state it can take 20 minutes for our brains to acknowledge the food we eat to give us that full feeling. Eating too quickly can result in overeating. Eat Slowly has been created as a training tool to help you slow down, enjoy the taste of your food, and support a healthy lifestyle.

As children we had satiety cues that told us when to stop eating. With age and the stress of daily life many of us have overridden those satiety cues. We consume hundreds of calories in a matter of minutes and still feel hungry. Eat Slowly aims to help us slow down, enjoy the food we eat, and feel fuller longer.

What’s New

Version 1.6

The second version of Eat Slowly (Version 1.5) was released over two years ago. To be honest, I didn’t believe anyone was using it anymore. However, this year two separate iTunes reviews caught my attention and inspired me to find the source code and make some changes. Thank you to those two reviewers. This new version of Eat Slowly (Version 1.6) resolves some embarrassing defects. These defects were a result of Apple’s privacy changes in iOS8 where an app like Eat Slowly now needs to ask for permission to send notifications or use the camera. Additionally, Eat Slowly (Version 1.6) now allows results to be exported (i.e. shared) from Meal History. This was a complete oversight on my part. It should have been part of the first version of Eat Slowly. You should notice that the user interface has been updated to adapt to different sized screens. If there is interest in the community of users I'll release this app as an iPad app next. There are some other minor graphical changes but that’s about it. I wanted to get this a new version of Eat Slowly out to those of you using it as quick as possible.

Easy and Effective

This was recommended by my fitness program along with four other similar apps. I chose this one because of its simple format. If your goal is to lengthen your meal time then this is the right app to choose. If you want something to tell you every few moments to take a bite, this isn't the one. This is about you focusing on your behaviors and being mindful of putting down your utensils in between bites, savoring your food, or drinking your beverage. For me, this is the right app. I want to manage the habits myself and not have a buzzer telling me when to take bites. For others they may need the buzzer at first and then gradually come to prefer something like this to hone the new habits.

Get this app today! Helped me slow my eating!

I thank the developer for creating this and please keep on trucking with this app and improvements etc. wonderful idea. Great customer service as well. This app helped me be more conscious of how quickly I am eating and now my eating has slowed down. As a recovering compulsive overeater-food addict I also knew it was time to change how fast I was eating because of cravings and not being full when done eating. Now, I am getting full and cravings after eating seem to go away. This is definitely helping me be more mindful and even taste the food more. If this works for me I don't doubt it will work for you. Get the app.

Really helpful!

This app is such a simple idea that it almost seems silly—but it really works! I’ve been trying to be mindful and deliberately slow my eating, with only moderate success until I started using this app. It is so helpful to see the time passing so I can gauge how much I need to pace myself. (This allows me to fully engage in conversation—which takes my active mind off of the goal of eating slowly—and still keep the target ever before my mind in the background.) Thanks for such a simple but transformative idea, made so easy with this great app!
