Wonderful free app for Hams
I've had this app on my iPhone and iPad for some time, but only recently ran it through some tests with local repeaters. LIke anything in Amateur Radio, there is a bit of a learning curve and you may have to do a little research on Echolink and how it operates. But with that behind you, this app works extremely well and offers the opportunity to get on the air when other means are not available.
For those who complain that the latest version no longer works with IOS 4.0 and before -- upgrade! It is well worth it.
Long overdue for an update!
It's certainly not the best app out there when it comes to updates. It's full of weirdisms and doesn't allow you to reject incoming phone calls so that you can stay in compliance with Part 97 because it takes more than 10 minutes to get the app running again after getting knocked off by a caller. It also doesn't allow you to adjust the output audio volume especially while using your Bluetooth with your iPhone to stay in compliance with state and federal electronic devices driving laws. If it wasn't for the issues mentioned above, EchoLink would be the next best thing since Momma's apple pie!
Great app but needs polish..
This app functions perfectly-- everything needed is there to have a great EchoLink QSO.
Despite this, the app is very rough around the edges though. I cannot personally criticize "programmer artwork," which is assuredly present, but really the whole UI could be improved significantly by using some standard controls.
The app should also support background operation as a VoIP app when connected to a remote node so users can connect and listen while doing other things.
After the basics are out of the way a VOX function would be a nice addition too.
Thanks for a great app!
