Good app and thermostat with major caveats

The Ecobee thermostat in general is a well thought out device and the accompanying app works pretty well except these two issues. One is major and a potential deal breaker the other is just plain annoying.
1. The outside air temperature is based on temp sensors that may or may not be located close to your home. You have no control over what sensor you can use short of artificially changing your location to somewhere else. This doesn’t work for us. We live in a micro climate and the temp can be as much as 7 degrees off from the sensor. We’re up at 1300’ and the sensor is at sea level. So when it’s 40 at the sensor and say, 35 up at the house, the heat pump will run continuously trying to heat the house. I have to manually select AUX to get the gas furnace to kick in. But the temp delta is not consistent. Sometimes it matches. It just depends on whether we’re in an inversion, etc. And if I forget, then I run through a ton of propane heating the house when a heat pump would be more appropriate. So please, let me use an ecobee room sensor located on my porch to record outside air temps. So easy yet when I call, it’s painfully obvious that this is not something ecobee is interested in fixing. Very sad.
2. The app keeps logging out. A serious PITA when I try to access the ecobee widget.

Still disappointing

One of the main advantages of a smart thermostat is being able to tell how much you're using it and why. Ecobee has reports for this (though I'm not the biggest fan of how they've designed them), but they are not available on the iPhone app, so you have to log in on a computer to see them (or have an iPad). (In case you are on a computer and are looking for the one report that gives you day-by-day runtime totals, it's called Weather Impact and is under System Monitor.)

My other major complaint is that it takes a few clicks to see the temperature of the different sensors. I'd like to see on the main screen the difference between upstairs and downstairs and whether both are registering as occupied, but I have to go to the menu and then sensors to see this.

The biggest issue, though, is with ecobee's integration with HomeKit. Any hold put on by HomeKit (whether a manual override through Siri or an automatic home hold through geofencing) is a permanent hold and will not respect your schedule, including sleep. This is a HUGE issue. If your schedule is set to away but you come home, HomeKit will set you to home FOREVER until you leave again. The temperature will not cool down for sleep--because you're still in the geofence. I can't get over how stupid this is.

Please fix the problems.

First off I would like to say that I have never written a review on a product. But I do read many reviews just to get an idea or an insight of a product.
My big suggestion to you is stop doing any new innovations until you fix the problems with the ecobee thermostat & app. Please concentrate on fixing the problems that you have before you move forward. I have an app that continues to crash I have sent multiple emails with screenshots and still no avail. I’ve updated my phones & iPad to the newest iOS and I’ve also updated HomeKit an Apple TV to the latest updates.
I continue to have issues with Geo fence. I have two iOS iPhones and the newest version of HomeKit and yet it still does not work properly. I know that it works I’ve seen it.
I have read other reviews and I agree with them totally when they mention having the platforms from the iPad and the iPhone to work seamlessly and have the same information on both ends.
When it works I am blown away amazed and a happy camper. But I should not have to check it every day two or three times to make sure that it’s working. Especially when my wife and I have different schedules and leave and come home at different times. That’s the challenge smart things and smart homes should not have to be inspected on daily basis just to see if they work. So please stop what you’re doing and please fix the problems in the updates that you have.
Thank you free time that I appreciate you listening.
