The Rheem EcoNet App allows you to fit complete control of your home comfort in the palm of your hand, no matter where you are!
Up to 65% of your home's energy consumption comes from your HVAC and Water Heating equipment. The Rheem EcoNet App allows users to reduce their utility cost with the following features:
- Vacation Mode: If no one is around to use your equipment, does it still run? Yes! With vacation mode, rest assured that if no one is home, you're not racking up your utility costs unnecessarily.
- A Mode for every mood: Let Rheem do the heavy lifting! Our EcoNet-Enabled Smart Water Heaters and HVAC Equipment allow you to leverage different operating modes, enabling you to tailor your home atmosphere to your exact preferences.
- Pairing is caring – EcoNet works with Nest! Nest customers with a Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Protect along with an EcoNet enabled Water Heater can now pair their Nest account with their EcoNet accounts. When a qualifying Nest event is triggered, EcoNet puts your equipment into an energy saver mode, taking the guesswork out of being (and saving) green.

EcoNet plays nice with others:
The home of the future is full of things - smart things! Smart things that, ideally, work well together. The EcoNet platform is designed to integrate with other Smart Home/IoT devices. What's New in Version 3.1.0
- minor bug fixes
- heat pump water heater mode reminder
- product documentation reference on select products
No value for water heater. Poor security.
If you want to use this with a water heater you can 1) change the set-point -- unless you can't and 2) Turn the heating elements on or off. It's too bad this isn't made at least a bit clear before you buy the network interface. If that was all I'd give it two stars but Rheem also presents a misleading description on the web site and the app has abominable practices. It must be connected the Internet, you have to have a Rheem account, you have to connect to the device as an access point, requests to change the two settings you can are slow and sometimes will stop and buffer many requests which then spew out (almost comically) and if you try to exceed a set point limit it simply repeats the warning screen over and over no matter how many times you press confirm.
This app is a poster child for how not to make an app.
By the way, the network interface I bought on 16-July-2017 was made in 2014. If I'd known that I would have stopped right there.
We needed a new water heater, and since it is the second largest consumer of power in the house, I thought controlling it would be a good idea. Wifi seemed like the way to go. This app is very limited in regards to control. About the only thing it does is save you is the agony of finding a screwdriver and walking to the garage to change the temperature control. Yes you can set vacation days, and it will send error codes, but that's it.
What would be nice is to see when it is on, for how long, and the ability to set off times during the day/week. Maybe in a future app update?
Could be better
Give me more functionality. Kinda regretting buying the wifi unit. The vacation mode is nice, but I don't really care to set the time and date once I click it. It should just start the vacation mode until I click it again. It should also allow me to schedule the water heater temperature for the week (surprise just like the Nest thermostat). I don't want to rely on the nest away function cause that is error prone as well. We should talk and use the full power of the water heater sensors to make to app really valuable.
