Description

Take a virtual tour of Edinburgh Anatomical Museum.

The Edinburgh Anatomical Museum was built with a glazed roof, which allowed natural light to illuminate the objects from above. There are around 800 objects currently on display in the museum, although a recent inventory project, lists the total number of objects and specimens in the entire collection as nearer 12,000. Due to the lack of environmental control in this Victorian building, many of the collections that are more susceptible to light or heat damage are not on open display. While collections of this size are relatively normal in Museums of Pathology, it is unusual for an Anatomical collection, which is historically handled by both staff and students, to survive on this scale.

Best viewed on a larger screen

I've heard of this referred to as "virtual reality" but it's not true VR as it doesn't use a headset. There is also an annoying tendency not to be able to zoom in on objects of interest. Therefore, the bigger the screen you use, the more detail you can see. It is better to view this on an iPad than an iPhone, something you might want to know in advance, as it is a big download. That said, it is the best documentation of this intriguing museum you are likely to find short of actually going there.
