Superb cerebral puzzle game
Eliss is one of a kind and truly embodies the inherent complexity and elegance of simplicity. It's not like your typical run-of-the-mill action puzzlers that currently pervade the App Store (e.g. Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc.). Eliss uses basic vector graphics in 2D geometric shapes and a somewhat perplexing set of gameplay rules that will take some time to fully learn, master, and be comfortable with. I'm not even going to try explaining how you play because it would literally make zero sense. You'll only understand by playing the game and even when you begin playing it, you'll still need to refer back to the in-game help from time to time to refresh your memory. Eliss is AWESOME and being an early App Store game, it proves that timeless concepts are timeless ones.
A great game that never lived up to its potential
I really wanted to like Eliss. It's original, it has the most creative way of using the multi-touch, and the design is clean, retro and visually appealing. Unfortunately, the difficulty is steep and very frustrating. I got stuck on a few levels until I gave up at the near-impossible level 15. Here are some ideas: the energy bar depletes slower depending on the difficulty levels; infinite gameplay mode, where you can play for points; slower gameplay that gets faster as player skill progresses. This game hasn't been updated in years, which implies that it won't use features implemented in the past years of iOS (retina resolution, iPad screen size, multitasking) and further development for it has been abandoned. Too bad because its full potential was never untapped.
EDIT: not sure it's $5, but I don't think it is. Either way, I would appreciate this game more if it did not become such a frustrating challenge past the half-way point. This game also needs to be optimized for smoother graphics, or a sequel should be made!
I love this game, the graphics and unique gameplay are phenomenal, but $5 is a little steep for a such a simple game that becomes too difficult to bother in the last quarter. I'm so glad I bought it at $1, NO way would I pay $5! Great game though, I wish there were more like it.
