Emergency Beacon

By Nicholas Entin

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Emergency Beacon is a vital app for all outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who wants a little peace of mind. This app was made as a tool to help rescue teams identify victims of falls, avalanches, natural disasters, or any other emergency incident. Emergency Beacon can emit an audible alarm and send GPS coordinates by email or sms when the iPhone has a cellular data signal. Here are some of the key features:

- The audible alarm can be set to go off every 30, 60, 90, or 120 seconds.
- An unlimited number of email addresses and phone numbers can be pre-programmed to be automatically set in the “To:” field of the email/sms dialog.
- The survival guide features vital information to help you survive an emergency situation and is accessible offline.

Emergency Beacon is a must-have app for your iOS device.

Please note that this app does not have any affiliation with rescue organizations and is owned and updated by a completely outside source. The app's owner, developers, sponsors, and affiliates are in no way liable for the use/misuse of this application or the actions of the rescue team(s) working with the application. This app is made to be an extra tool in emergency situations and should not take the place of other safety measures.

The GPS functionality of the app is dependent on the location functionality of iOS devices. The ability to find coordinates and the accuracy of those coordinates is a function of the device and not Emergency Beacon.

If you have any questions or problems with the app, please let us know via our website. Thanks!

Good Application, works as advertised

I have a family member who has seizures and when one hits, has limited ability to make calls or send texts.

Therefore this gives the closest thing to a life-alert pendant you can get.

Only technical issue noted when testing was that once when hitting SMS button the app just dropped me to blank iMessage screen.

One feature request would be ability to customize alert text. It says "I am in need of help, my location is: [gps coordinates]". The issue here would be whether the type of help required would be a flat tire repair or a medivac unit (yes, you can edit the text before sending, however that somewhat defeats the entire purpose for the app).

Also, to some extent the survival guide is too specific and perhaps not worthy of its own big button. The survival guide gives weather and natural disaster tips, however does not mention, for example, the best response when lost in the woods, how to combat shock or hypothermia, or how to deal with snakebite or bears, for example. However, if the smartphone has a data connection then obviously Google could yield all the required info.

What I would do is lose the emergency info button and add a feature to make the phone flash morse code (sos) or to flash red or blue strobes. So then if you were lost at night the search party could see the phone strobing whilst it beeps.
