*Bug Fix: We discovered a bug that interrupts bluetooth pairing of the app to the Eora 3D Scanner. This has now been resolved.*
AR enabled!! We are integrating AR experience into 3D Scanning.
View and edit 3D Models captured with the EORA 3D Scanner in Augmented Reality.
We've also updated the app with one core improvement and two new powerful tools:
- Tripod mounted 3D Scans: We've optimised the app for more accurate capture of point cloud data when scanning at an angle using the turntable.
- Measurement: Measure distances between vertices.
- Annotation: Add notes to specific areas of concern during part wear and tear inspection.
- And a number of general bug fixes.
Ratings and Reviews
I waited 2 years for the Eora scanner after funding it on their IndieGoGo or Kickstarter campaign -- I don't remember which. Then, when it arrived, I had to be a beta tester to use it. I found that I could not align ANY of my scans well enough to make a coherent model.
I put it aside for other things, but today I thought I'd try again. Now there is this app, and my beta app is gone. So I had to go through the processs of pairing and calibrating again.
The first time I tried, the battery on my iphone ran out. The way the hardware is arranged, you can't use it with the iphone plugged in, and it is a battery HOG.
So I recharged my iphone to 100% and tried again. After about 15 minutes, and 52% of my battery, I gave up. I am completely unable to calibrate the device, much less find out if they have made any improvements to the alignment tools since I was beta testing for them.
My thoughts on the alignment question is that they should make a desktop application for doing those steps. A finger on a little screen is no way to establish 7 precise alignment points for 3D scanning.
Useless so far
Not sure which one is faulty- the app or the device? But so far it’s been useless. It paired up the device and the turn table easy and quick but every time I tried to calibrate the device it keeps disconnecting. I tried every possible ways but no luck. The support is usually slow and not helpful (never give me detailed instructions). Im very disappointed because I keep getting burnt by Kickstarter/Indiegogo. Don’t trust these startups. They always make everything sound like it’s too good to be true and guess what it is a lie.
Better than the Beta, but still lots of bugs
The calibration is still pretty tricky. The blue button actually never displayed for me and I had to guess where the button would actually be for it to work!
On the home screen the scan button covers the “...” link on my first scan making it impossible to click.
The export also feels broken as the mesh states a certain file size that does not match the actual exported file.
I was a very early supporter of this project on Kickstarter and have been optimistic for a long time. Hoping these bugs can be worked out as the device has some great qualities.
Unfortunately the whole setup feels pretty beat to me still. I’m happy to provide screenshots of you guys are interested.
