Works Well

I needed something to generate equations for a presentation that I am assembling. In the past I have used the equation editor in Word, but that is no longer an option as I have not kept up with the upgrade cycles. I took a chance on this, mostly due to its’ low price and MathType’s higher price. All in all I am pleased. Thought that the LaTex bit would be a problem, but it is actually a plus as the app generates the LaTex script which you can then modify. In many regards you have more control on your equations that you have with the Word editor. Definitely better than fumbling with the symbol font to kluge together equations.

Polished and easy to use

I have used LatexIt for a long time, but decided to try Equation Maker. So far, I have been very happy. It has all the features I like. It is easy to use and for an experienced LaTex user, you can easily construct equations and drag them to other applications. If you are new to LaTex, then the icons can be used to quickly assemble equations. I like that you can save the equations for re-use.

Worth the Small Price

I’ve used the Microsoft Equation editor in Word and OneNote (PC) and also tried out the free DAUM equation editor.
Since I use a Mac at home and on the go, I needed a decent equation editor for Mac.
I like this product, the Equation Maker (EM), better than either of the two I’ve used.

Pros:
Very easy to use and edit the Tex to change the equation.
Nice, simple UI.
Save equations in the side bar for later use - great feature.
Drag-drop as image into Pages or OneNote for Mac.

Cons:
Strange font size behavior when dragging the equation to Pages or to OneNote for Mac.
(it works, but the size of the equation after dropping it into the doc is larger that it appears in the EM display).
Zooming changes the font size instead of changing just the view. I’’m not sure I like that.
