Escort is a garbage company, this long time customer will never buy again
Update: not only did they never do ANYTHING to improve this dumpster fire of an app, the most recent update has completely broken it. No longer works at all. I want a refund of the absurdly expensive subscription I've paid for numerous times and never been able to use properly, and now not at all. This company is clearly suffering from some fatal and chronic management failures. Shameful and I can't imagine they'll remain in business much longer. They've certainly lost a long time repeat customer here.
App has a horrible interface and is full of bugs. Almost never plays audio warning via phone unless app is running in foreground. Drains battery like crazy. Hideous UX. Literally one of the worst interfaces I've used in iOS. Want to mark police, for example? Good luck, finding the tiny button is impossible without looking closely. Many of the functions in the app simply don't work. Press "clear" and nothing happens. Almost never receive any "live" warnings because very few people use the awful app. I was mislead when purchased detector, thought it had GPS when really it's just through phone Bluetooth which is extremely annoying to lock out superfluous signals. Lastly, forcing a $50 annual subscription fee after paying hundreds for a detector is asinine. Very disappointed with escort, I should have just kept my old detector and saved $400.
It's ok... now it's better! Yeah!
Update: they were working on the app and their server last weekend. The app came back on Monday. It is working much better. Very smooth the interface now. The interactive map goes in the direction that you are driving. Yeah!!! I can now use the map and see where I am going. The app used to get hung up as it was opening. Now it just opens right up. Seems like the readout is much quicker. I'm giving it five stars. I'm assuming that it will be the new norm and they will improve it from here. Nice job escort.
I see no change in the new version. I was sure that they would make the map function move in the same direction you are driving. It moves from the right to the left on your screen rather than moving in the direction you're driving. It's confusing and for me useless. I called the company and they said they know of this limitation. I asked them why they can't just design a new user interface. I said every other map function I use moves in the direction I'm driving. It seems to me that this would be the first thing that they would've changed in the new version. Disappointing. The radar detector works well. I just bought it a couple weeks ago.
A workaround for the "data" error in latest update
I figured this out by accident today. If you will log in to the app BEFORE your radar is powered up and detectable to Bluetooth, the app will log you in without the data error appearing. After the app has logged in, it will say "cannot detect device" and you need to power the detector on at this point. You can either pair it with the app or it will pick it up on Bluetooth on its on (mine picked it up on its own). When the connection is made, everything works like normal. And my app has reconnected to my detector after I've turned the car (and detector) off several times since I did this, so I hope that's all I have to do. Love the features of the detector and the app when working, but it gets one star until they fix this. Have been frustrated for a week until I found this workaround!
