Unbearably Slow and Unresponsive

That one video at the top is by far the worst “innovation” I have ever been subjected to by an updating app. I can’t imagine anyone asking for it or thinking it was a good idea. It takes forever to buffer, and the rest of the app is almost completely unresponsive until it does. 95% of the time this video is something I don’t care about or is old news to me by now. And if you actually want to watch the video with sound or full screen, good luck getting that up and loaded. It’s as if the developers knew no one would ever want to watch the top video so they didn’t bother making it work. The rest of the app is just barely acceptable. When it’s not constantly loading the wrong article, or buffering 2 minutes for an Applebee’s ad before buffering another 2 minutes for a 30 second highlight, it works okay.

Great potential, tones of bugs

This review is not based on user error. I'm a tech head. This app has great potential (especially with the new multicast feature). But man, is it buggy. Favorites don't sync from Apple TV app to phone app. Buffering is terrible; I get constant dropouts, and this is with my Apple TV wired to Ethernet with 189 mbps download speed. In its current state, it's often unusable. When they fix all these bugs, I think/hope the ESPN app might be one of the first great Apple TV apps. I'll change this review when it is.

Update: 189 mbps internet speed, wired ethernet connection to Apple TV, every other streaming app works flawlessly, and yet ESPN stutters. For the love of all that is good and holy, ESPN, update your servers.

"World Wide Leader" Not Giving World Wide Coverage to American Fans

The #1, #2 and #3 most-watched sports around the globe are, respectively, soccer (association football), RUGBY and cricket. If the supposed "world wide leader" was living up to that moniker they would make a FAR GREATER effort to cover those sports--here in America--alongside their NFL, NCAA, NBA, MLB, and NHL coverage.

NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO REVOLVE AROUND THE NFL/NFL DRAMA, NCAA FB, NCAA BBALL, THE NBA, MLB, and THE NHL! Have you ever thought the American sports fan might prefer variety in-terms of sports to watch and/or learn about and engage with???

Additionally, ESPN would be doing itself a huge service by focusing strictly on the athletic performance of the athletes and not their private lives like they've done over the last few years. I'm sick and tired of seeing what might as well be "gossip columns" in place of sports reports.

The ONLY sports network in America that understands this is NBC SPORTS Network. Not only do they cover Premier League soccer and Premiership Rugby, they actively cover ALL Olympic sports AND the NFL, NCAA, NBA, MLB, and NHL!

That--RIGHT THERE--ESPN, is why I stopped watching.
