Customer Reviews

It use to be a whole lot better.

It's very aesthetic. It pleases my eyes every time I use it. It's not very practical, though. In the days when the app was named 'Score Center,'it was a whole lot better in my opinion. My biggest complaint would be that the app used to tell you what channel the sporting event of your choice was coming on, now it doesn't. It doesn't even let you know if it'll be on ESPN or one of its sister networks. I like to follow several teams in which I live out of the market for. Usually I could just look at the app and tell it my team would be broadcast nationally. I wish they would reinstall that feature. It would be a much better app, in my opinion.

My second biggest complaint would be that it crashes way too easily. Whenever I get a notification and go to check it out, it crashes. If I open up the app to check on a game, it crashes. I've noticed that this app will crash before you are able to use it.

My last complaint is something that I could live with if it was never addressed. In fact, I'm only complaining because of my laziness. In 'Score Center,' you could arrange college teams by their ranking, or by the conference they were in. Now you have to sift through every game on a particular day. It's not really that big of deal, but it used to be a whole lot more convenient.

A necessary evil

The newest version is irritating. This is probably a 4 star app but because it used to be a better, it keeps going down.
I preferred the ever simple, quick, non-complicated version of late 2010. Each of the new versions are seemingly and continually moving in the wrong direction for the user.
Take out the ad banners separating the pages. It's clunky and scrolling can become slightly arduous. I miss seeing my team(s) info front and center like before. I dislike the large window views for the video clips in news. If you want to waste my time with video clips, all of which have some sort of pre-video ad, make a video tab. Leave my news tab alone. I click on the sports icon, click a sport, and it completely takes me out of the app. This happens 80% of the time. Why during the playoffs does it not show the series score? I don't care about the regular season record in the middle of a divisional series. Show that instead!
And yet, it is my most used app...

Terrible App

Whoever rates this app anything higher than 1 star is lying or works for ESPN. This app is terrible. It crashes about 65% of the time, and when it does stay open for longer than three seconds, it shows weeks old scores. Heck sometimes it claims there is "no game" that day for a particular team despite the fact I'm attending the game in question. It's also the slowest app I've ever used. By the time it decides to not crash and takes the time to update, i could've checked the score on my laptop even tho it's on a different floor of the house.

This app was killer back when it was score center. The last few updates completely ruined it. I will give credit for one thing. Somehow despite the overall terrible architecture and slow loading, the ads always load quickly and completely before any other relevant data is loaded. So the app is capable of fast updates, but that ability has been reserved for ad traffic only. Thanks ESPN!
