Really just not fun
I enjoyed the Evil Dead films, so I was looking forward to this game. However, once I saw the screenshots of the cartoony graphics, I was disappointed. That disappointment continued once I played. Yes, the game follows the same general plot in the first chapter, but gameplay is just boring! The entire first chapter had no challenge at all, and there were no rewards for winning each battle. No weapons to unlock, no stats to update, no real incentive to keep me playing. When I got to the second chapter (I wanted to see what it was and if there was anything special at the end of the first chapter), I thought "huh? wth is this?". Why create a new story instead of making the 2nd chapter take after the 2nd movie?? And still more of the same boring gameplay. After a couple levels, I quit.
And then there's the shotgun - that is NOT a shotgun. It sounds and behaves more like a semi-auto rifle! C'mon, the boomstick is a major feature of the films - how could you ruin that?
I can't believe the exec producer of the film said this game stayed true to the feel of the film. Did he actually look at the game?? Other than the basic plot, the game isn't anything like the feel of the movie!
Only reason I gave the game 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the level of polish which is decent. Game isn't very fun, but at least it was made well to not be very fun. :p
Let's cut to the chase shall we?? The game is good but it's not great either. I've had a some problems with lag which caused me to die a couple of times. The game looks good but to be an Evil Dead game it shouldn't have been given kid-like graphics. The controls take a while getting used to but they're all right. Also it has sound issues especially in the fight against Linda where the sound is either off cue or it's never there. Lastly the game follows the movie faithfully but I was let down by how short it is, they could have exploited this part substantially which is one of the most important ones. Besides these issues the key elements to make a great game are in place it just needs a couple of improvements.
What a shock, I downloaded an iphone/ipod game that can barely function. The lag is unbelievable, and from the looks of the dates of these reviews it doesn't look like it'll be fixed anytime soon. A shame because it had a lot of potential to be cool, but I guess no one will ever know because no one can play it. How does this crap get approved? Even though it was a cheap purchase, it was a purchase none the less and I suppose if enough people like myself are foolish enough to give it a shot, that's a lot of profit from a game that doesn't even work. More reason to stick to real handheld gaming devices and let these cheap novelties die off once and for all.
